RE: S-Video to SCART vs SCART to SCART

Hi

If you use Scart>Scart (i.e. RGB out to RGB in) you will get a better picture
as long as both your TV & DVD support RGB, plus you will have sound travelling
thru` the cable.
Alternatively S-VHS gives good picture quality(but no sound) tho` not quite as
good as RGB.
You will need to buy a cable which has SVHS & Audio cables at one end
and a scart connector at the other. I bought a Techlink(?) one from the Sony
Centre for £30, it`s a good solid lead.

My DVD player only gives S-VHS as the best option for picture, but it`s still
crisp & clear.

Try both setups to see which you prefer.

RE: Completely P@##ed Off!

My nephew & his mate have got thru` 9 (count `em) PS2`s in the last
12 months, some won`t read the older blue disks, some won`t
load at all.

Dodgy rushed console if you ask me.

Remember the old PS1? mine went kapput after 5 months, would`nt read anything.

RE: Connecting TV, VCR and DVD player

haggis

see thread "Argos Scart Switching Unit"

These things have 3 inputs (RGB/S-VHS scart) which is switchable to composite
for when you need to use the video, and RGB for DVD & Satellite.
One output (Scart) to TV, plus Red/Yellow/White AV outs to amp/hifi.

Argos & Index do the same units for approx. £10

RE: Need Colour Printer

HP Deskjet 3650 is a good printer for under £70

Got a 5* award in Computer Shopper

RE: Argos Scart Switching Unit

The switching unit should enable all of the inputs to be RGB.

Is there a button to press to enable RGB, it sounds like you`re only
getting composite.

I`ve got one of the boxes that were sold in Index from about 3 years ago.
If the RGB button is not depressed, I get a fuzzy picture i.e. composite.

hope this helps.

Oh, is your DVD player setup to give RGB out?

RE: Gamecube set up

Hi

Does your TV have any A/V outputs? If it does, run the RGB scart into the TV
then get some leads to run from the TV to the amp.

Otherwise, go to Gamestation I think they have a universal RGB lead which
fits GC/PS2/Xbox which has AV leads connected.

RE: Strange PC problems

Hi,

I think spartacus is on the right line, check your power supply, it could be failing.
Are these "mishaps" random? then its probably the PSU.

Canon Bubble Jet i320

Hi,

I`m thinking of getting one of these printers for xmas, has anyone bought one &
what are your thoughts on it. I`ve chosen this printer mainly because of the cost
of consumables, Canons stuff seems cheaper than most.

RE: A Little Help

Hi

If your gfx card doesn`t have tv output, then all is not lost.
Personal Computer World ran an artice in the last issue of
their mag showing how to wire up an RGB connector from
the PC to a scart plug. It looks a bit fiddly, but it is possible.

RE: davs300 and ntsc playback??

No, I don`t think it is possible, I`ve got a chipped DAVS300 mine works fine `cos my telly
auto detects PAL/NTSC.
Then again I may be wrong, why don`t you contact the place you had it from to see
if they can shed any light on the subject.

Just a thought.. check your tv`s setup page, you may be able to force it to accept
an NTSC signal from there, mine displays an option to choose between PAL, 3.something & 4.something NTSC and then AUTO.

I agree with peteh. Obviously some of you like PES3 & some of you like FIFA2004.
Would`nt the world be a really dull place if everyone had the same taste??

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart

Yeah, just get a new lead, see the thread with the Curry`s thing.
£12 (MadCatz) it has A/V connectors built into the lead and also has
a switch so that you can get rid of the "green screen" PS2 DVD playback.
If you use the switch you`ll only get composite i.e "fuzzy" picture quality,
but at least everything will be the right colour :D

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart

Hi cokie

Is pin 8 wired on your PS2 lead? open up both leads (GC also) to compare pin
connections, your PS2 lead may not be wired. Some people have been known
to disconnect pin 8 to stop autoswitching.

Oh.. unplug from the mains first ;)

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart

Popdog

One question tho` will the PS2 be connected to your telly thru`
the AV1 or EXT1 scart socket? Most TV`s have numerous scart
sockets but usually only one of `em is RGB wired(usually AV1)
the other scarts are SVHS & Composite.

I would recommend getting a switch box (£10 Index), this allows you to connect upto 3 RGB devices to the one RGB scart socket on the telly. The only downside is
that you have to physically press the switch on the box to change device.

Some people moan about this (too lazy if you ask me!) ;)

Hope this helps ya bud.

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart

Hi,

Yes, the "proper" RGB lead will auto switch as it has pin No. 8 wired.
This is the pin that autoswitches all scart lead equipment.

Much better picture too!

Ste.

BTW, you can pick up a RGB lead with A/V outs from Currys for about £12
Manufacturer is MadCatz methinks.

thanks for the replies guys, I`ll check `em out.

In madness you dwell??

Not quite yet ;)

RE: Best way to connect a playstation 2...

Is`nt GTA3 Vice City DTS enabled? or is it only the USA version?

Ste.

Whiskey in the Jar OH!

Hi All,

Anyone know where I can get hold of Metallica`s whiskey in the jar video?

Can`t be arsed with going thru` the Kerrang channel gubbins!

Cheerz.

Ste.

RE: XBox video connections...

Yes, RGB gets rid of the "fuzzy" effect that is evident when using the bog standard
composite cable. Especially noticeable if there is a lot of red in the scene.

Ste.

p.s. the official Xbox RGB lead is a bit on the flimsy side, my plastic casing came
away from the connector very early on.
