PS2 auto switching on scart
My tv is capput (read hardware forum)
my tv will not auto detect the ps2 signal and switch to the av channel as it does with my sky box and dvd player.
I got a reply saying if I use a proper ps2 scart and not the crappy phono to scart connection then it will then work
Is this right ????
Dont want to spend the money for nothing.
Thanks grant

All a scart cable will do (in theory)is give you a slightly better display as you do not have the phono to scart connector in line.
Cant see any reason for buying it.
What i did was:-
Split my signals up by connecting my PS2 through an old video recorder and then to the telly. (if you dont have a video rec you can now pick them up with builtin scart socket for a cheap £30)
You set the video manually to AV channel and you get PS2 .
If your telly has two scarts sockets or a scart and co-axial This leaves your TV for other autodetect switching operation like your DVD & SKY.
RE: PS2 auto switching on scart
Hi,
Yes, the "proper" RGB lead will auto switch as it has pin No. 8 wired.
This is the pin that autoswitches all scart lead equipment.
Much better picture too!
Ste.
BTW, you can pick up a RGB lead with A/V outs from Currys for about £12
Manufacturer is MadCatz methinks.

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart
Thanks ste.
went onto currys site and it is as you say.
As long as this new lead will change my tv to av then im sorted.
I will at some point get the thing fixed but with the Xmas expense id rather wait.
As I said I cant manualy change channel at all even to av.

Popdog
One question tho` will the PS2 be connected to your telly thru`
the AV1 or EXT1 scart socket? Most TV`s have numerous scart
sockets but usually only one of `em is RGB wired(usually AV1)
the other scarts are SVHS & Composite.
I would recommend getting a switch box (£10 Index), this allows you to connect upto 3 RGB devices to the one RGB scart socket on the telly. The only downside is
that you have to physically press the switch on the box to change device.
Some people moan about this (too lazy if you ask me!) ;)
Hope this helps ya bud.

I have RGB scart lead for my ps2, but it didnt autoswitch to AV channel
i know its RGB since my TV only supports NTSC in RGB mode, plus the green tint is there when playing DVD
so do i need to buy a new scart or is there a setting i can change in my PS2?
plus i have a GC and the autoswitching works well with the GCs scart
i checked my ps2 scart and the number of pins is the same as GC`s
please help

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart
Hi cokie
Is pin 8 wired on your PS2 lead? open up both leads (GC also) to compare pin
connections, your PS2 lead may not be wired. Some people have been known
to disconnect pin 8 to stop autoswitching.
Oh.. unplug from the mains first ;)

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart
if its not wired can i wire/solder it or something?
theres no point for me opening it up just to know its wired or not, better if i just buy a new cable instead if i cant do anything about it right?
anyway i fear i might do the scart more damage if i open it up :)

RE: PS2 auto switching on scart
Yeah, just get a new lead, see the thread with the Curry`s thing.
£12 (MadCatz) it has A/V connectors built into the lead and also has
a switch so that you can get rid of the "green screen" PS2 DVD playback.
If you use the switch you`ll only get composite i.e "fuzzy" picture quality,
but at least everything will be the right colour :D
