Connecting TV, VCR and DVD player

hagggis (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 5th January 2004, 22:59

My TV, VCR, and DVD each have a single scart socket on them. What do I need to buy and in what way do I connect them up to allow me to have these three items linked together such that I do not have to unplug e.g. the VCR from the TV to allow me to connect the DVD to the TV. I am new to this so a fairly basic explanation of what to do would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably a `Scart switching box` with 2 Scarts in and 1 Scart out. Your DVD and VCR Scarts go to the Input pair and the single output scart goes to your TV. That`s one option.

haggis

see thread "Argos Scart Switching Unit"

These things have 3 inputs (RGB/S-VHS scart) which is switchable to composite
for when you need to use the video, and RGB for DVD & Satellite.
One output (Scart) to TV, plus Red/Yellow/White AV outs to amp/hifi.

Argos & Index do the same units for approx. £10

I would connect the DVD to the TV via scart, then just use the video through the co-ax aerial lead.

IMO picture quality from VCR doesn`t warrant the expense of a decent scart switching box or extra scart leads.

I faced the same problem recently and opted to connect the DVD to the TV via a reasonable s-video cable. My TV is fairly old so the difference between scart and s-video was not really noticeable. A scart switch box can be found for about a tenner if that`s the route you prefer anyway.

RGB compatible SCART switcher. They work the other way as well if you ever needed to do that (ie one source on 3 tellies)

Why would you want to pipe anything thru` the co-axial input?

Sludgefest picture quality with any equipment. :o

VCR`s don`t output RGB, but the picture & sound quality will be
better thru` scart.

Plus, the switchbox gives you further options later on e.g. PS2
GC, Xbox, Satellite, Cable etc.

Please PLEASE Please help

I have a Mico R311 DVD Recordable. Cant fault it and it works great. I had a TV, Sky And VHS Video all running through a splitter so that anything on the TV Downstairs could be viewed upstairs. I have now taken the Video away and replaced it with the DVD but cannot get the DVD to play upstairs through the splitter.

Do you know any way that this could be done

Thanking you
