Not sure if this is the correct forum for this cry for help, but here goes,
Im after a decent cheap n chearful colour photo printer, the one ive been looking at is the epson stylus photo 830u.
This printer retails for arounf £70.
If anyone has seen this printer for less please let me know, or if anyone knows of a better alternative again let me know.
My main requirements are:-
Decent price, Cheap inks, photo quality.
Argos are currenlty doing an all-in-one LEXMARK printer for £79.99. Forget what the model is but it is a photo-quality printer/scanner/photocopier/fax machine in one unit.
I have the X85 (another version of the above) and have been very impressed with the results. Alas, ink is on the dear side (approx £25) but you can get cheaper "replacement" cartridges for around £12.
You may not know this but the reason why Lexmark (and HP) cartridges are more expensive than Epson/Cannon ones as the Lexmark (and HP) cartridges come with the print head where-as the others don`t. So everytime you replace the lexmark cartridge, then you are replacing it with a new print head.
Hope this helps
RE: Need Colour Printer
Sultan,
Thanks for the info on the LEXMARK printer, will have a look later today.
With regards the cartridges coming with the print heads, i admit i didnt know this and it does sound tempting knowing this.
Once again thanks
Personally wouldn`t buy a Lexmark coz although the quality is often very good the cost of the cartidges are very prohibitive.
Bought myself the Epson Photo 900 when Dixons were doing their deal for £75. I believe that the Photo 915 is now out and can be bought for around the same sort of money.
Hope this helps...
RE: Need Colour Printer
HP Deskjet 3650 is a good printer for under £70
Got a 5* award in Computer Shopper
Ste.
Maplin currently have a Lexmark P706 `photo` printer on offer at 29.99 (was 79.99) - don`t know what it is like.
The cartridges are expensive on HP & Lexmark especially when you are talking about `budget` printers. In several cases it is actually cheaper to buy a new printer with free cartridges than to replace both a colour and b&w cartridge.
I have the Epson 830 ( Not the"U" version).
It is same as yours, but on mine you can connect to the pc via USB or the normal old style connector).
I have bought compatable Black carts for £ 2.95 each & the colour for £ 3.72 each.(compatible type- not Epson orginals) .The P&P is free !!!!!!!!!!
They are from: http://www.xscomputertechnology.freeserve.co.uk
Excellent service.
I have an epson photo 830
I think the new one is a 900 or something
They are easy to use and maintain. And give great prints.
I have always used epson.
