S-Video to SCART vs SCART to SCART

GMog (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 8th January 2004, 14:51

I have the option of running a s-video cable from the dvd to a scart socket on the back of the telly (the TV only has scart connectors) or alternatively just scart to scart. Is there any benefit for either option?

Cheers

Hi

If you use Scart>Scart (i.e. RGB out to RGB in) you will get a better picture
as long as both your TV & DVD support RGB, plus you will have sound travelling
thru` the cable.
Alternatively S-VHS gives good picture quality(but no sound) tho` not quite as
good as RGB.
You will need to buy a cable which has SVHS & Audio cables at one end
and a scart connector at the other. I bought a Techlink(?) one from the Sony
Centre for £30, it`s a good solid lead.

My DVD player only gives S-VHS as the best option for picture, but it`s still
crisp & clear.

Try both setups to see which you prefer.

Ste.

And Scart-scart gives auto widescreen switching which is absent from the little s-video plug
