RE: COME ON, BORIS!!!

Not sure who is the bigger buffoon, Boris or those of you lot that think that because you don`t live in London it won`t affect you! What happens in london is key to the rest of the UKs prosperity - for example if he messes up the olympics it will be the TAXPAYER that bails it out, i assume most of you pay taxes. They should have said no more than 2 terms and then Ken coud not have stood and the great people of london would not have had to vote for a tv show host to run the greatest Capital City on Earth, and manage a budget bigger than the economy of many small nations. It is a bad day for EVERYBODY.

RE: Missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has been found alive

Now they reckon the mum was having an affair with the `kidnapper` uncle...the one who tried to kill himself yesterday :/ This is one crazy mess. One of the reporters when it first happened said people were suspicious of the mother because she was working class. Looks like we were right to be....

It is a disgrace that people think they are entitled to this money, and I despise the compensation culture that this country has developed. >:( >:(

RE: RIP The Omega Man

A great actor, but an awful role model. The `if everybody carries a gun, nobody would get shot` attitude is stupid, and IMHO marred his great career.

RE: To maintain your current weight you`ll need:2598 calories

2815 here ... like the fact it didn`t challenge me at 8 feet 10 inches.

RE: Any shower experts here?

Mmmm, tricky one this. Shower pumps have a habit of being troublesome in a flat setup - my mates one somehow was plumbed into the toilet as well as the shower, and when it was flushed the pump would kick in and refill the cistern in about 5 secs :D Never did work out why (it should have only operated on the hot supply). It could be a fault with the pump, but more likely it just doesn`t like the system. Only real option would be to move it closer to the shower, so only the demand for that goes through the pump, but no promises that would work either. :/

RE: Where Oh Where Could Little DS Be?

Woolworths in Grays had some at the back end of last week....they also had Wiis in stock when nobody else did after launch -- I think people just don`t go there, and the local population may not be so affluent,

RE: Karaoke licence type question

Under the 1993 licencing Act they would need a public entertainment licence to have Karaoke / Disco. Try the local authority licencing team to see if they have got one.

RE: Rachel Nikel (sp) murderer caught 15 years on?

I know the guy (through a mutual friend) that was Staggs solicitor at the first trial, and he said that in all the cases he has been involved with (including some really dodgy people!) he has never been more convinced of somebodies innocence. He said Stagg was the most horrid person he had ever met, but he was utterly convinced he was innocent of the murder.

RE: Double delivered goods, what d`ya reckon ?

I had a similar thing with a TEAC stereo once ... it broke after about 3 months, so i called them to get it fixed under the warranty, they said they would just send me a new one imeediately, and would get a courier to collect the broken one within 28 days.

Anyway, new one arrives next day, then about 3 weeks (plus several phonecalls) later courier finally collects the broken one. 3 days later another new one arrives, with a note saying thanks for returning the broken one, and that having tested it they have decided to send a replacement rather than repair it! I called them up, and explained, and they said a courier would collect it (!) but never did .... i think i waited a couple of weeks before using it ;)

RE: Anyone know about corkage ?

Maybe the question should be if a hotel that shafts you over the wine is somewhere to have your do? Vote with your feet and look elsewhere, maybe then they will stop taking the proverbial.

RE: Cutting down trees on council land??

As a chartered landscape architect,my professional advice is that they belong to the local authority and your mate has no right whatever to touch the trees. If they were blocking a view of a council tip rather than a golf course and the guy nextdoor decided to give them a trim you would be mighty peeved. Of course they may also be the subject of tree preservation orders which means any lopping or felling would leave you liable to hefty fines and/or prison. Your best option would be to tell the local authority they are too big and blocking your light (which you have no legal right to by the way, but claimit is an infringement of you human rights under EU law and they will normally believe you)

I am sure others will be able to give you other options, which I am by means of my professional chartership unable to do :$

RE: drill recommendation

If you want one for keen DIYer type use, then the B&D Firestorm Drills are awesome. I have 4 drills and about 9 batteries! They often come in crazy cheap twin pack type deals. The only downside is the charger which tends to get a bit tempremental over time, but the drills are faultless.

RE: Reviewer Poker Players

I play a bit, both online and in the real world. I am a member at Gutshot Poker Club in London, and play there regularly - Its a great venue with a nice bunch of people. Also play with their online software, and with paddy power poker too.

RE: Toolstation / Screwfix - Both cheaper than high street!!

Quote:
Screwfix used to be owned be the guy who now owns/runs toolstation. I believe...
I think B&Q own Screwfix now...

Absolutely right. The guy is a legend, sets up an awesome firm, sells it to B&Q (Kingfisher) for millions, and then uses the money to set up again, with even cheaper prices!

I have been using toolstation for a couple of years now, and tend to use them more these days as i have a bit of a hatred for B&Q. But it is always worth comparing, and screwfix has a bigger range, but that said the latest toolstation catalogue has doubled in size. Nice to support the underdog ... of course Screwfix also have the benefit of having a couple of trade counters near me in london for real last minute purchases, whereas toolstation shops (which again, are better with really knowledgable staff) are still only in the Southwest where the guy is based (been helping a mate rennovate in Exeter, and we were virtually daily visitors for a fortnight!)

RE: Joint Ownership of Property - Declaration of Trust

Quote:
I think there are two different ways to buy a property jointly

Yes, there are - joint tennants or tennants-in-common, and they differ greatly with regard to what happens. If you are joint tenants, the the house is in effect held in trust by you both for yourselves. If one or other dies, the other person will get the other half of the house ... this is what married couples normally do.

With tennants-in-common, you own your share of the house only, and it does not have to be 50:50 if one paid a deposit or pays a larger share of the morgage etc. If one party dies, then the other share becomes part of their estate, and may not go to the the person that owns the house with them, it depends on if they have a will, and who the beneficiary of their estate is.

RE: DIY experts....Is this drill any good??

I wouldn`t touch silverline with a bargepole ... they are cheap because they are crap :/

I would only buy B&D / Bosch / Ryobi / Makita / DeWalt power hand tools, and maybe add Metabo to that list for bench-top gear.

That is a good price, and B&D are generally value for money. If you plan on using this for its hammerdrill then don`t bother - I would not consider a hammerdrill under 18v. As a normal drill / driver it will be fine, and as a B&D it will normally be reliable too.
