Karaoke licence type question

Bezzawezza (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 9th December 2007, 18:30

There is a community centre not far from my house and there is currently some sort of disco going on there with a bunch of people doing Karaoke.
When they built the thing we were led to believe that it was going to be a quiet centre for aerobics classes and weightwatchers meetings not kids on the mic nights!
Anyway, I digress, what I want to know is that if you plan to do karaoke stuff do you need a licence from the council if its close to houses? I seem to remember a pub I frequented telling me that was why they couldn`t have karaoke.

Under the 1993 licencing Act they would need a public entertainment licence to have Karaoke / Disco. Try the local authority licencing team to see if they have got one.

Such community spirit, it melts your heart

Best shut them down for not acquiring the appropriate license so said kids can roam the streets of a night causing you and yours grief of a more menacing nature ;)

Live a life you love, use a god you trust, and don`t take it all too seriously

as was said early would prob need public licence

singing in a puiblic place could also facilitate the need to pay the owner of the rights to the song a fee also (so be careful next time you sing happy birthday in a restaurant - oh the things you learn on QI)
