My experiences with Directtvs.co.uk

Hi,

Recently I bought a TV from this company, being poor but with high tastes I got a cheapy brand named Teco 37" 1080i tv for just over £400. I thought this was a good deal. Within 4 days the TV died, not to bad I thought, that can happen even with well known brands. This is where the hell started LOL!

The returns policy seemed convuluted, I called customer services, they told me to go online and fill in a form. Before I fill in the form it tells me I have to call the manufacturer to get an RMA number. Strange I thought but ok, so I call Teco and they have no record of my serial number. So I call directtvs customer service again. They explain that that`s a mistake and I don`t need to do that, it shouldn`t be on the website.... OK so I finally fill in the form.... I wait... I wait... I call customer services, oh yea we sent an email to your email address to see when we could pick it up. Not wanting at this point to get in an arguement that I checked my email daily including the junk I just asked if we could arrange it over the phone. So they pick it up anytime between 9 and 6 the next day a bit late notice to throw a sicky but ok. So then I wait 5 days until the replacement comes, again with a delivery schedule of anytime between 9 and 6.

Now this is when the fun starts, I get the new TV out the box and set it up, as I`m plugging in the aerial cable I notice a red arrow shaped sticker on the top near the side, pointing to a dent. Now I can`t help but laugh, if they were going to try and slip that one by me why put a big sticker on it?!

So I phoned them up again, and they wanted a photograph of the damage, fair enough I thought, sent them the photographs and an ultimatum, they can pay me £50 to keep the unit or come and drop off another unit whilst they pickup this one and deliver at our convenience this time. HAHAHA! As if, they stick to their guns these ones, no amount of errors on their behalf or anger on yours will get them to change company policy. No they have to pickup the faulty unit (anytime between 9-6), test it (what for? did they think I forged the photos?), then send out the replacement (anytime between 9-6).

So here I am watching my old 14" TV waiting for a replacement to come thinking of what excuse I can think of next time I throw a sicky!

So be warned, you may get a great deal from these guys or you might get a riveting tale to relate to others on the internet.

Some CDwow vouchers I`m not going to use.

going to run out in 7 days and I`ve already spent too much this month on DVDs

RE: Is there a region hack for LG HT552TH?

thanks in advance!

Is there a region hack for LG HT552TH?

RE: Do you pass anywhere nice on the way to work? Pic thread.

No pictures to show but I saw two dolphins in Auckland harbour on my way home from work last night. (I get the ferry home)

I also pass a big volcanic island called Rangitoto.

but I get the bus too work in the morning so don`t see anything good (besides I sleep through most of it)

RE: Bl**dy computers

if you are still trying to get into that folder and you are running xp check out:

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

if you`re not running XP look around there, there may be something to help.

good luck.

RE: Salt and Chocolate Junkies please sign this petition.

The problem was they were such a rip off for what you got.

RE: In the last 2 mins huge quake in Tongo.

Got a phone call at 5.30 in the morning here in Auckland and told to "run run, your all going to die"

Apparantly the british media made a huge fuss over nothing and they were still broadcasting the story even after it was scheduled to hit fiji and nothing happened and even after it was supposed to hit New Zealand and didnt.

The news here was laughing saying that they did notice a tsunami but it was only half a meter high.

RE: LOST-The season 2 thread :)

I don`t get why there`s been all these stupid breaks in the season. what`s going on in america now that they didn`t show it this week?

SPOILER:
Good to see Michael back he`s been out for way too long as one of the best actors in the show

With season one about half way through they found the hatch and this lead up to the finale, I can`t see what they`re leading up to here as there hasn`t been any sort of big quizzical thing that`s been going for half the season, unless it`s some revelation about the others.

Anyone connected through LAX specifically Tom Bradley?

I`m going to be going from Terminal 5 to Tom Bradley International Terminal can I make it in an hour and a half?

just thought somebody might have connected through there in the past and know an answer, you are a well travelled lot on here!

RE: Why always manslaughter??

To all those who are stating the difference is intent to kill;

I don`t know how up on law people are so bear with me if any of this is patronising and also this is from my A-levels which where a number of years ago so spellings will be off!

A crime is made up of two parts the AR (actus reus) and MR (mens rea). The AR is the actual act (in this case killing somebody) and the MR is what the accused had in the mind.

For murder the MR is: intent to kill or cause gbh

so if the lawyer could prove that they set out to beat the crap out of somebody not necassarily kill somebody then they can still be guilty of murder.

so in my eyes they are murderers

RE: CD-WOW £2 vouchers

I filled the form in yesterday and it seemed to go fine but never received any email, does the mail contain HTML images because if it does it would be bounced back by my server at work.

RE: How does one `subtly` screw up a job interview?

I have to agree with the doctor, I have a degree and there are no jobs in the media industry for me at the moment so what am I doing? I`m earning £800 a month doing administration on a temporary contract.

(albeit not very well since im posting here!)

RE: Hawaii

RE: Problem with my cats.... need help

cat`s contain a lot of scent in their urine. My friend`s rabbit just gave birth and one got out, she knew you`r not supposed to pick them up as it leaves the scent of you on it and the mum will dis-own it, she asked a breader what to do and he said get some of the droppings out of the cage, rub them in your hands and pick the rabbit up that way. perhaps look in the litter box for any surpirses? or simply wear gloves and rub some of the litter into the poor fella.

RE: Bargain DivX & Card Reader DVD Player £19.99 From Lidl!!

@ bytemaster,

a quick translation implies that in order to install the hdd you would have to sacrafice the card reader

"To the rebuilding the complete Cardreader must be removed including to his cable. Simply both screws remove, Cardreader board remove and draw off the cable from the Board. They see the right side of the player after the rebuilding: the remarkable black-and-white cable is the "new" data line USB."

RE: going to amsterdam wednesday..

I think you probably mean Rokerij, there are 3 (maybe 4) of these, and the one down leidesplein is the best but also the one near centraal station next door to the doors and a bulldog is good too.

best place I found for a smoke is abraxas which is pretty hard to find, from Dam go down leidestraat and take the first road on the right (it looks like an alleyway)

RE: WOW 10% Off all DVDS at Filmnight.com - inlcudes pre orders too!

They must be offsetting the cost of buying out apollo video

RE: DVD Problem

If you`re playing an NTSC encoded disc (ie american) and the cable you are using to connect to the television is a RGB cable (3 seperate cables - red white and yellow) then the only way around is to get a scart cable and connect with that instead, assuming you have the correct sockets.

RE: Just been taken for over a grand

I know its of no use to you now but for others and in the future if you are thinking of getting work done and want a reputable tradesman go to places like schools and hospitals and note the names on vans for people doing work there. Government buildings are so scared about getting sued they`ll only use trustworthy people.

(read that in nuts!!)

RE: Moving to New Zealand?

My parents are emigrating in october and are both nearing the 50 mark, they weren`t very high on the points system but realised that you can always `buy` points by having money in your bank account so they sold their house and mortgaged up to the eyeballs on a new house in order to have all their money that was tied up in the house in their bank accounts.

RE: Can anyone reccommend a cheap multiregion player?

does anyone know if the coby player selling on ebuyer is hackable?

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=90472

if the link doesnt work its the 5" portable model, I cant find a product code though.

Can anyone reccommend a cheap multiregion player?

I`ve got an old Toshiba (about 3-4 yrs) which is unhackable but am looking to get a new player which is either multi-region out of the box or remote hackable so I can get Alias season 4 and Lost season 1.

I`m looking to spend about £30 because I only want it for 6 months as I`m leaving the country then.

I`ve been looking at the Alba DVD65 and the Yakumo XL2 but am worried about some bad reports.

any ideas?

RE: FOSTERS BEER FRIDGE AT ASDA 89 QUID!!!

Novak - I`ve got several mates at uni who bought them from maplin the £40 ones and use them to store a bit of food in their room at uni. The fridges make about as much sound as a computer and its a well nice white noise to fall asleep to!
