just wanted some info on places to eat etc, any to avoid, all helps.

im only going for a few days to see the stereophonics at the heinekin music hall i think its called.

also it will be the first time ive flown in 8years, and the second in total, dont remember much about the first one to be honest. just wandering about luggage. as im only stopping one night im travelling light dont see the point of a suitcase, so im going to take a small rucksack thing you carry on a shoulder. what sort of size can you take onboard? also how long should i get there before the flight, its at 9.45 on wednesday morning. am i ok to take a mobile with me. i know it may seem obvious but as i say ive only flown once.

and any hotels to recommend, ill be sharing a room with my brother, to save money, its only one night. we were thinking of just trying on the day but now i think about it im not sure if we should have booked something.
cheers.

Go and see the Van Gogh exibition-get there early and Ann Frank`s house
you can buy a boat trip with entrances included.

you can buy a tourist travel pass including entrance and trams from the booth outside the main railways station-don`t expect service with a smile but hey you might be pleasantly suprised. I thnk its the stag party effect!

Good links from Schipol airport and travel prices reasonable.
there are some good small eateries(can`t remember names though) but avoid large beer- swilling and home of stag party places :( Unless you like that sort of thing.
You can eat `round the world` including Argentinian steaks.

Unfortunately I wouldn`t reccomend our hotel -it was noisy, very small rooms and expensivve-it was also part of a large chain.

Hope you enjoy it its very interesting place.

The Bulldog Hotel is cheap and cheerfull and smack bang in the centre.

For a drink and a smoke in the evening, I`d reccomend the Rokkery....the one down Leidesplein. Really chilled and friendly.

I think you probably mean Rokerij, there are 3 (maybe 4) of these, and the one down leidesplein is the best but also the one near centraal station next door to the doors and a bulldog is good too.

best place I found for a smoke is abraxas which is pretty hard to find, from Dam go down leidestraat and take the first road on the right (it looks like an alleyway)

I knows what I means....I still have a beermat in my study from one of them and it`s definately spelt Rokkery on that.

Only found two of them mind.

as i said im only going to be there for a few days, but dont really want to waste too much time looking for somewhere decent to eat or sleep.

im a bit fussy with food, always have been, doesnt take much to my stomach going, problems i had when i was younger. as long as i can get a good cup of coffee im ok. i dont smoke either.

is this bulldog hotel good. i know you say cheap which is good. we just want somewhere to kip down to be honest, because in the night we will be at the gig, so as long as the place is clean then im happy, ive seen some bad ones in my time.

and do they speak much english. ive only been abroad twice and both times i dont remeber understanding much, did a lot of pointing from what i recall.

thanks again

Yeah you can speak English. I went at the beginning of the year. Food is quite expensive. Burger King is cheap, and if you`re by the Bulldog there`s a cheap Italian place that serves great food, and the sports bar is cool too by there.

Avoid Pizza Hut, cost me a fortune, loads more expensive than over here

where did you stay?

ive been looking and it seems to be around 60euros a nite for the room. some include breakfast which is good, only one night so shouldnt be a problem.

i was thinking of something like a burger king, not very original but if its cheap then it might do.

thanks.

am i ok to take a mobile on a plane, didnt have on last time i flew

I was in Amsterdam 18 months ago & stayed here . My girlfriend was really worried about ending up in a poor bed & breakfast, so Holiday Inn was perfect, and this particular one was excellent, not too far from Amsterdam city centre, and very close to the main airport.

im not a snob or anything i just like to stay in a clean place. i stayed in a travel lodge type thing in peterborough and it was fine. at least you know what you are getting which can be a relief in a different country.

just wandering when, should i arrive for checkin. im only taking a small rucksack as luggage, my flight is 09.45 from liverpool. i dont want to be late but i dont fancy getting there too early and having to drive in rush hour traffic to get there.

thanks.
