Tools to test pc hardware

my pc just getting very sluggish for the past few weeks
it might just need a quick reformat but
I just want to make sure that everything properly works
anyone can recommend a tool/software I can use to make sure my processor and memory is working fine?
plus a hard disk tool can be very useful

one of my hard disk is acting weird
I can play my video/music files fine from it
but whenever Im transfering stuff to or from the hdd my mp3 starts to stutter
my mouse is not as responsive etc
plus the transfer will start ok
but instead of the time for it to complete getting less, it gets bigger
some files even never stop transferring

Ive got a few hdd in the pc and only this one causing a problem
thanks in advance for any help!

RE: compatible inks, are they ok to use?

hm
i guess that makes sense
buying originals 3 times is enough for me to get a new printer
clear choice then :)
thanks!

compatible inks, are they ok to use?

my inks are running out on my canon pixma mp600
when I first bought it there were no compatibles for it but now they are available at 1/10th of the original catridge price!

should I continue using originals or Ill be ok using compatibles?
the last printer I had, I used compatibles and the ink head went bust
I wonder if using compatibles were the cause?
Ive heard bad things of using compatibles
especially with canons due to the way they made their ink heads compared to epsons

RE: need ethernet connection anyone who can help please.......

u will need pci ethernet card

although sounds hard but its actually very easy

you need to open up your pc and check if you have a spare pci slot
if there is a pci ethernet card will only cost you £5 at most
then slot it in
if you are running xp/vista, Im sure it will detect straight away ready for use
but if you are not, you need to install the driver which might get tricky but works

RE: PS3 pre order... Why are they not all gone yet???

I havent preordered for a few reasons
1. the price: £425!!
2. the games: none that i fancy having
3. resistance is the only game worth having but I finished that already
4. I got a 360 already.. and most games coming out on ps3 now is coming to 360 as well

though i must mention here (dont flame me for this its just a thought)

I dont think PS3 were too expensive compared to 360
at launch premium 360 will cost u £299 + play and charge kit £20 + wifi thingy £60 + live subs £40 + £130 for HD DVD... so total cost £550 or if u dont take the wifi its £490

but ps3 at launch £425 all inclusive with 60GB and blueray capability

some people argue that with 360 you can choose not to buy this not to buy that but in the end how many people that bought core 360s end up buying a £60 20gb hdd? and how many people paid £200+ odds for the 360 HD DVD drive arround christmas?

anyways
I would probably buy it now if everywhere else in the world is £425 but its not. its £280 in hong kong, £310 in japan and £340 in US.. plus pro evo is not out yet I have no reason to own one ... yet :)

PS3 to PC monitor connection

is it possible to get a 1080p full hd picture if I have a compatible monitor with 1080p resolution or higher?
My current tv is only 1080i so the ps3 will only use 720p instead.

RE: fixing a freeview aerial outdoor

thanks for the advice
will have a look at argos

cokie enjoy

fixing a freeview aerial outdoor

Im trying to fix my tv aerial
the aerial looks ok to me (no visible rust etc)
the orientation also looks fine (same as all my neighbours) but the cable into my living room is rusty inside! so I suspect thats why there is no signal coming through
Im a DIY person so as with everything else I would like to fix it myself
but Im not sure which cable should I buy
I would like to receive freeview digital
I can get about 15 tv channels through my indoor aerial so I think Im set if I just change the cable on my outdoor aerial

so the question again
what cable should I buy
what connector does it use?
any other tips that might be helpful

thanks in advance

2 player co-op games on 360 recommendation?

RE: Laptop recommendations please

if you are buying acer for £499
there is a similar one at £479 from ebuyer
the processor is a better core2duo T5500 comparing the core duo T2050 from the one at comet

the downside is the memory is only 512mb but if you add 1gb memory thats only £40 extra
so for around £520 you`ll get a better processor and 1.5gb ram
