diverse (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 23rd June 2007, 10:11

Argos are offering a free set of Wifi and WM port speakers which they sell for £99 (claiming they are worth £199) with the new video mega small walkmans.

Free item is code 534/6790 and they come with the following which are also £20 off (8gb is £30 cheaper than my local Sonystyle store and website!!)

2gb 513/5671 (Black) £99.99

2gb 513/5688 (Pink) £99.99

4gb 513/5705 (Black) £129.99

4gb 513/5712 (Pink) £129.99

8gb 084/1960 (Black) £169.99

I got mine yesterday, the speakers are amazing, seperate subwoofer, remote contol, total BARGAIN!!!

These units are amazingly small and the sound quality is superb, the pictures of these do not do them justice, i was stunned at how small and how good the screen quality is. OK they have SonicStage but if you like your music and want the best sounding player sometimes you have to make a sacrafice!!

Offer is on until the 26th of June.

Hi Diverse, thanks for info. How do you get the extra £20 off the walkmans too, or does the price already include it?

Cheers Niteowl

p.s. just managed to order one for store pick up from one of our branches :) . Mind you the online reservation is a bit wacky! Sometimes it`s shown as unavailable, then try again a min later and then available, guess it`s based on how many users online and reserving or cancelling at the same time.

p.s. do you think this is the sony cradle speaker system Sony CPF-NW001 (for £149)
Look here halfway down page

The model no is CPF-IX001, they work really well and I was pretty impressed with the sound via line in and wired, everything about this is great except there is no way in 10 years you`ll be able to get the wifi streaming to work! i googled the problem and i see plenty of other people with the same problem.

In fairness i`m more than happy with it as a small, stylish 2.1 system for free but if i had paid £100 for it >:( >:( >:(

Thats worth knowing, yet the only picture they display looks different to the CPF-IX001. Does that mean you can`t dock the Walkman on it?

You can put any audio input via a headphone socket (audio input on speakers), the WM port is for the latest generation Walkmans. I don`t care about the WiFi tbh, don`t see the point in leaving PC or laptop on when i have my Walkman which you can now charge without plugging in to the PC or buying the extra power supply (shame on you sony!!)

It looks like that one TBH, but the power supply/subwoofer and wifi add-on are seperate.

I`m really p***ed off. Drove 14 mile round trip. Got to the Argos branch where it was reserved until tonight for me, was about to pay for the items when a snooty manager came by and said the offer has been withdrawn due to an error.

I challenged her, saying it was in stock and as far as I`m concerned was reserved in my name, showed her my confirmation email which in my eyes was a binding contract. She than rang head office who said there was an error (speaker system is £199 in their catalogue) and offer has been withdrawn and no contract had been entered because no money had been paid. Argos would not honour the reversation and accept payment as advertised on their web site. >:(

Got to a pc and see no mention of the offer being withdrawn. In fact it`s still there and available in a few other branches (bit further away) until tonight 26th June.

So what`s the law on this then? I`ll see what TSO have to say about it.

There is no way this was an error, they took out a half page advert in Fridays Times, I will upload as a .pdf if i can find out how to do it.

The advert was headed:

FREE SPEAKERS WORTH £199.99

In a nutshell TSO said as no contract had been entered into then Argos are under no obligation to sell it to you. They`re looking into it further as false advertising.
