RE: PDA Buying advice
Hi Mark,
thanks for the info. If you don`t mind me asking what do you generally use yours for? I had a play with an iPaq 114 today which is about the same price as the Palm TX has a faster processor but lower resolution screen. It was cool enough but I`m still not sure I will use 250EUR worth.

RE: PDA Buying advice
Thanks for the very fast replies.
As you mention Rass, the functionality of the PDA is gradually merging with other devices. The problem is that I don`t want an integrated phone as I like the idea of having them seperate and I don`t want a contract (I`m currently on PAYG and spend about 20EUR every couple of months). Also I don`t really want to use the planner functions on my phone/ipod as they really don`t offer enough functionality.
The trouble is that 250EUR is a lot to spend without really knowing if it`s worthwhile or not.

PDA Buying advice
Hi guys and gals - long time no read/write (the joys of work blocking the forum).
I`m after a bit of advice pls.
I wanna get a pda mainly for tracking appointments for the family and for reminder/notes. I`m not interested in phone or satnav as I have both as seperates. I looked at the Palm Z22 as a cheap alternative but wanted to be sure I didn`t limit myself too much in terms of functionality as I don`t know what other uses I might find for it. I then considered the Palm TX which is at the top of my price range but don`t really know what to plump for.
Anyone got any advice? Is there some other alternative which I`ve missed. Palm have got the E2 but without Wifi - is that necessarily a problem?
Thanks in advance
Riggs

RE: DVD Backups
The laptop plays original disks no problem. The disks are datawrite titaniums. I have a couple of other types of disks - I will have a look at to see if that makes a difference. I`ve tried one of the disks on my main player and it pauses as well after about 60mins or so.
I thought with divx I could convert the file on my main computer and then transfer it to my laptop - it should hopĆ¼efully play okay then if you think it`s a blank disk problem.

RE: DVD Backups
thanks for the replies guys. So effectively if I convert to divx I shouldn`t see the problem? Would it also make a difference at what speed I burn at? I do seem to notice that some disks will play on my main pc without a problem so maybe it is a compatability thing with the disks - I`ll have a try with another type.

Just finished The ORange Box (except TF) and am now trying to run through Stranglehold. Kids finally finished Cars (okay I admit it, it was me :D )

DVD Backups
Not been around for a while as work have now blocked access to this `movie` website. :(
I`ve been playing around backing up a couple of my dvds for using on my laptop when travelling. If I make a backup copy of my disk it occasionally stalls on me during playback. I`ve also tried to backup a copy on divx so I can take it with me and also stream it using my XBox. I`m just wondering if I can expect similar pauses with the divx file (e.g. the problem occurs when transcoding the file) or is it only to do with the burning of the file onto dvd?

TV Shows
I`m getting hassled by my wife again who seems to think anything on tv can be downloaded from the internet (probably can but she doesn`t need to know that ;) . After tvlinks died I wasn`t really bothered but if it gets her off my back I might have to look into something else.
Can someone give me an idiots guide (and I mean idiot :D ) what the easiest and safest way is to get tv shows (mainly from the BBC) whilst no being able to use iplayer as I`m not in England?

RE: Newcastle appoint Keegan....!!!
Depends on what you mean by `didn`t do anything` ;) . The reality is that 1/2 of the teams in the premiership won`t `do anything` other than avoid relegation and miss out on european football next year. On that basis I would rather be watching `sexy football` than boring football.

RE: Allardyce departs Newcastle
Quote:
I`ll take bore draws and late goal winners any day over `nice football that wins nothing` its not doing Leeds any harm is it?But I don`t think the Newcastle fans will. Essentially Arsenal and Man U have shown that you can play good attacking football and win games. I was living in Newcastle during the Keegan reign and they `absolutely love im` so if nothing else it will keep the fans quiet for a few weeks. And as my son is a Geordie boy I have a bit of a soft spot for NUFC (until WBA are back in the premiership)

RE: Newcastle appoint Keegan....!!!
I don`t think you should underestimate the amount of feeling there is in Newcastle for the likes of Keegan / Shearer etc. If there`s one thing he will bring back is the belief and confidence that was lacking under Allardyce. His defensive coaching skills may be dubious but if they could keep him for a couple of years I`m sure he could bring some stability to the club and maybe even provide the type of football the fans are gagging for. and if he uses Shearer as well he`ll get the press and fans off his back. Also he`s gonna get more time than Allardyce simply because of his standing witht he fans.
I wish him luck as he seems like a nice enough chap and has stepped out of obscurity back into the flames of prmiership football.

RE: Recommend me a Wii Game
Really would like something that uses the Wii controllers effectively as he already has a PS2. He loves Lego Star Wars and Fifa Street on his PS2 and is into Mario on his DS.
Is FIFA08 any good?

Recommend me a Wii Game
My sons 11th birthday at the weekend and I`m going shopping tonight to grab him some bits and pieces. As I`m stuck behind my works firewall I can`t check out what are the top Wii games so am after a few suggestions.
He`s already got Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Play, SSX and Rayman Raving Rabbits - can anyone suggest anything else?

RE: Find a Friend
Thanks for the replies guys. I will try facebook when I`m at home. Unfortunately I can`t pop round to his old house as I will only be in the UK for a week and wanted to try and find him before then.
Using 192dotcom I managed to get the street name where he was registered on the electoral roll in 2002 which is where I remember him living. Would he only need to resubmit his details if he moved house after 2002 or is the electoral roll archived (e.g. I can find the same person in different years with different addresses)?

Find a Friend
I was looking to try and find an old school friend who isn`t appearing on Friends Reunited but am struggling to find anything. I`ve found an electoral roll entry for 2002-2006 on 192dotcom but have to pay 150quid before I can even check if it`s valid. Needless to say I don`t want to find him that much :D I`ve also checked on BT as well as google etc and they`ve got nothing.
Anyone any ideas where else I can check?
If it helps he is also a Baggie fan!

Active Noise Cancelling Headphones
It looks like i will be travelling quite a bit this year with work so am looking for a pair of active noise cancelling headphones so I don`t make myself deaf. The only problem is that I`m struggling to find decent reviews to help me make a decision. My budget is about 70-100 quid and I`ve been looking at the Sennheiser PXC250 or AKG K440 NC headphones. Can anyone offer any comments/suggestions?
I know the `around the ear` types would be better but I don`t want them to be too big as I`ll look more of a prat than usual. That`s why I`d looked at the `on the ear` Sennheisers.

RE: Have I bought into the wrong HD format?
Man, reading this thread I`m really glad I took advantage of the XBox HD DVD offer for Christmas... :( . My first unit was broken and so I sent it back to Amazon for a replacement....which arrived yesterday.
If I`d have known I might well have just asked for a refund.

Yup, precisely why I keep saying I don`t want him.
1-0

1-0........
zzzzzzzzzzzBut presumably you would accept it if it meant winning the league? I would have thought 1-0 against a City side playing 4-6-0 (to quote your previous list) would have been acceptable. And according to Football 365 Chelsea have averaged 1,57 Goals/game this season, with 1,68G/G for the same period last year. Liverpool are on 1,70 this year, with Arsenal on 2,0. Therefore if goals for are a measure of entertainment then the top 4 are much of a muchness.
Riggs
Oh and this coming from a Baggies fan who are scoring freely this season (GD +25, 15 more than Watford in 2nd) but still losing occasional games 3-1, 2-0 which could cost automatic promotion. Oh and the Baggies are averaging 2,15G/G :D

Sony Memory cards
I need to get some pics off my brothers Sony camera but do not have the correct cable or card reader. Would it be possible to plug the memory card into my PSP and use the PSP as a memory cardreader? Does the card have to be specifically formatted?
Cheers

RE: Should Atheists stop celebrating Christmas?

Where? I`m not trying to stop anyone doing anything - quite the opposite if you read my posts and the OP`s strong opinion. GYAC I`m saying Christians, non-Christians, and atheists all have equal right to celebrate Christmas, and that Christians don`t have more claim to it than others (which is what the OP is suggesting).okay fair point. By the way, what does GYAC mean? The urban dictionary is suggesting Gifford Youth Activity Centre - I`m guessing that`s wrong ;)

Man, I don`t mean to offend you but you come across a bit like an ex-smoker . :D So has science proven to you that God does not exist, or do you `believe` that science has proven this to be the case?
Quote:
The burden of proof is on the person asserting that god (or anything else) *does* exist, btw.I don`t have to prove my belief to you as they are my beliefs. I don`t care if you share my beliefs. I also have not seen enough `evidence` presented by scientists (who are unbiased and trustworthy) to change my beliefs.

RE: How much have you got?
The only time I find it a pain not having a physical product is when you want to give it as a gift. Then it looks a bit crap burnt onto a cd.
As far as I am aware itunes will not replace something you have downloaded and `lost` (a bit like HMV won`t replace a cd you`ve lost) which is why they remind you to burn a copy to disk. I have effectively 4 copies of each downloaded track (pc, backup, cd and ipod).
The other thing is that I rarely listen to my music on a `decent` system. 90% of the time I am listening on my ipod or computer, or from my ipod in the car. Therefore it doesn`t tend to bother me. If I`m listening on my decent system I tend to be watching a concert dvd - then the sound quality is obviously more important.

As long as the van is in it that`s the main thing. That van was the coolest thing about the show (and the fact that you could discharge a firearm without injuring anyone). :D

RE: How much have you got?
I`m not so sure though if that has been the case for several years. Since I have been seriously into collecting music (the last 15 years) there has always been the tendency to have 3 or 4 tracks at the beginning which would become the singles and then a couple at the end `to give the impression` that the whole album was quality.
As I play most of my music on shuffle you soon notice how many duff tracks there are. Itunes is quite good in that I can pay 99 euro cents for a track and if I eventually like the album I just have to pay the difference instead of paying for each track individually. Hopefully it will mean artists put 10 or 15 decent tracks instead of 4 good and 6 fillers.

RE: Where Oh Where Could Little DS Be?
I know this will probably p a few people off and that is not my intention but I am a little confused by Nintendos supply policy. I am living in Austria and was out shopping yesterday and from the 2 shops I visited could have picked up 3 Wiis and more than a couple of DS`s. I know it doesn`t help you any but am a little confused why Nintendo aren`t shipping stock to the UK instead of filling Austrian shops where they are obviously not in demand.
