The Official Liverpool FC 2007/08 Thread

It seems like months ago since the end of the season but now were only weeks away from the start of a new season :D .

Seems like Rafa has been busy in the transfer market with Benayoun following Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin to the club and with Ryan Babel set to join tomorrow.
Should be an interesting season.

Higher than 4th?

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

Again? ;) We have strengthened our side since last season when we finished above Arsenal and they don`t seem to have.... well, weakened it probably. So hopefully we can finish above them. However, Spurs will definitely put up a better showing this season and will be pushing for at least 4th. Still can`t see us breaking into 1st/2nd place yet but can hopefully close the gap a lot with a decent start to the season - when Rafa learns it actually starts in August and not November/December...
Still like to see Quaresma sign too - but well happy with Torres and Babel. Not Benayoun though.. :(

Does everyone think it`s going to the be the 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 (whatever you want to call it) next season?

I don`t think Torres will benefit from that formation (and also means you`ve got Kuyt and Crouch on bench).

Surely starting line up from midfield is:

Benayoun/Pennant on right

Alonso and Maschersano in middle

Babel on the left

Gerrard behind the front man.

Torres up top on his own.

The only alternatives I can see is Gerrard on the right, but that doesn`t look likely with the signing on Benayoun or the other is to drop Alonso for Gerrard to play in the middle.

One of my mates says Alonso should definitely be out of the team because although he`s the best passer of the ball he has ever seen, he doesn`t really add much to the team as he doesn`t really bomb on scoring lots of goals or creating loads of challenges and isn`t exactly a ball winner.

I think it`ll be 4 - 4 - 2 most of the time

I think now he has Babel and Pennant to chose from on the right Gerrard may get moved to middle with Xabi or Mascherano.

Left hand side, well anyones guess from Kewell, Riise, Aurelio and possibly which ever one of Pennant and Babel (if he can play on the left) isnt on the right

Up front i`d think the first choice will be Kuyt and Torres

I can only think that Benayoun has been bought to play behind the front man when Rafa (undoubtedly and annoyingly) reverts to the 4 - 4 - 1 - 1 formation. Personally not sure i;d have bought him he has enough options in middle of the park, upfront and on the right now and im sure Benayoun isnt a left midfielder (i dont think he;s a wide player at all from what ive seen)

Could be a good season (i mean in general not necessarily from a liverpool perspective)

I have to say, I think that Voronin may just turn out to be the bargain of the season. Already considering putting him him my dream team in place of Torres.

in fact - f*** it, he is going in!
