RE: ALIEN QUAD R1 ALEIN EVOLUTION DOCCO CUT!!
The only reason I brought up the R1 vs R2 issue is that of rights to extras, it may be that some one would only allow the R1 to have a cut version of this documentary. I suppose it`s only on my mind because of another Ridley Scott film, Blade Runner, which may arrive before doomsday with three versions of the film, but as lawyers are involved it may not >:(
RE: ALIEN QUAD R1 ALEIN EVOLUTION DOCCO CUT!!
Is this cut on the Region 2 version? Sorry I had to ask... It could be one way Region 2 is better than 1.
RE: Why is everything silver?
I never could find a white amp to go with my old Sony 525, which always looked smart in white... well that`s not strictly ture, I couldn`t afford that Arcam top of the range amp.
RE: Richer Sounds - Acoustic Solutions DVD players - any good?
The JPGs take a while to load, but look good (depending on your telly). This was one of the reasons this was bought for my parents as a pressy (they love it).
RE: Is DVD Audio the future of music as we know it????
The difference between a Night at the Opera on DVD-A and on CD is huge. It just sounds like you are sat in the middle of them. This however, is a well mixed DVD-A, a couple of the other`s I own (Machine Head by Deep Purple for example) are not done as well. Plus some music really does shine in this format (Hotel California really uses the extra "Hertz" to give even more feeling to the guitars). But the thing that will always stop this is the limited number of albums available. Hardware may also not help (although I believe you can get DVD-A for the car now). The good thing about DVD-A is that you can play it (at a lower resolution) on a normal DVD player. I changed my player because I wanted DTS (does a fantastic job of those music videos) and got a pioneer universal player, and not looked back. But I haven`t bought that many (but I do have a really extensive CD collection).
Anil is spot on about Dolby Prologic II (thanks to Westy I went for an amp with this) and can be used on TV broadcasts as well.
RE: Superbit titles
Wasn`t Gladiator the first DTS release to UK Region 2?
RE: Cinema V DVD
My problem is the twenty to twenty five mile one way trip to my "local" cinema.... Still my 32" panny tv + pioneer 656 + Mordant Short speakers help the home experience.
P.S. I didn`t see this thread back then.

Stuff in blue seems to be common.

RE: r1 r2
Sorry couldn`t resist... and be surround sound!
RE: Region 1 DVDs...
Try looking here http://www.dvdcompare.net/index.php when you`re looking for films, it`s an invaluable site for the multi-region collector.
RE: When is reloaded out on dvd?
I too have ordered from EZYDVD as this version is more likely to be uncut and they use good old PAL (and at current exchange rates is about 15 quid + a bit for postage).
RE: Worst layer change?
Starship Troopers (you had to get up and flip it over) first release....
RE: I have R2 details for the releases of Johnny English and also an SE for There`s Something About
Do we know any of the details yet (I have only just bought the R1 version of Something about Mary, I would have preferred a PAL version and to support UK markets)?

RE: Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder now under £300 at ....
Quote:
posted by Fitz :-" A commercially produced DVD is a DVD is a DVD and will play in any brand of recorder..."
Hmm, some people would contest this... who`s had troubles with the Matrix (and a few other titles) on some DVD players?
RE: Is R1 Black Hawk Down 3 Disc RCE?? Help
Look here (one hell of a useful site) http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=2136 I must find time to look at the second and third disk... I should never have borrowed this from a friend, this always seems to lead to another purchase!
RE: Why so little info on Pioneer DV360??? And other help too please.....!
I`ve just bought one for my Parent`s from http://www.homecinemaheaven.com/prod_info/dvd/dv360.htm, it`s got some information, and Pioneer have information here http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=3728&taxonomy_id=45-64. The short exposure to it on Saturday it seems a good player (nice picture out of the box on there Panasonic 24inch widescreen 50hz tele). Sound is only going through a stereo system (which did cause me some problems in the set-up), but sounds pretty good. Layer change was pretty quick. The menu`s etc. are simular to my 656 and my brother`s 454.
I hope this helps.
RE: Has anyone got Deer Hunter on DVD?
Same here, only I managed until two weeks ago... insert humourous expletive here
RE: Monty python and another DVD re-release damn-it !!!
This was a big incentive to get a multi-region player (besides cheap region 4s). I am unconvinced that the region 2 version of these (if it happens) will be any better.
RE: Monty python and another DVD re-release damn-it !!!
What annoys me is that they have not long released the box set, this I would have though should have had the best features. Still it just means another disk in my large collection of Python...
RE: A Bridge Too Far
I was looking at my Play Account today, and suddenly remembered ordering this months ago in March. Does anyone know if this is a short term or long term wait, as I love this film and some of the documentaries looked interesting. Play`s TBA doesn`t help, and they didn`t send out an Email like CD-WOW.
Cheers
John
RE: Thunderstorms
I treated myself to a Belkin Powersurge extension lead, which includes TV coax (for the ariel) and Phone sockets for the computer (and if I had sky digital the digi box). was 40 quid but nothing compared to a 32 inch TV, a 656 pioneer DVD, and the amplifier. Plus it has insurance if it don`t work.
RE: Led Zeppelin DVD
I have it, but it`s in Dorset and I`m in Paris (working) for 2 weeks, if you can wait I`ll try it when I get back.... It arrived when I didn`t have time to watch it, is it good? Is Black Dog on it? Why don`t Hotels provide DVD players and full 5.1 or even 6.1 speaker sets?
Now Frustrated in Paris
RE: The Office 2nd series?
They may be waiting until this year`s Christmas specials (2 episodes) are available, rather than raking in all that extra money by releasing a third and final set... Unless Jervais changes his mind about a third series.
RE: Does Pulp Fiction ever use the rear channels?
Just a quick question, Rik, did you listen in DTS or use DPL II, as the DPL II may have enhanced the rear sound. I only ask as I have been amazed at how good normal TV sounds on the HT-BE1 (I have this set up in my bedroom, and look forward to changing my front room amp to somthing with this for normal TV viewing). This would explain a difference in views.
RE: Cheap MP3 Player with Smart Media Slot from Novatech £39.99
It should be okay with XP as this is just a partially bug fixed 2000 and an update Media Player and Internet Explorer.
In the case of memory, I thought the 32MB was a seperate card until I re-read the specification, so in theory it`s maximum is 160MB, but the last line of the detail says "Maximum file allowance - 128MB" now this may just be largest sized file (The complete works of shakespear?) or you`ll only be able to use either the internal 32MB OR external 128MB.
I do wish they`d put up clearer information on their web site. I have bought from them before and had no problems (but then when you have the problems is when you want good service).
Cheers
John
RE: That music from the Lynx advert... :-)
The French version is just as funny (for the life of me I c`ant remember their name for the product)... confused me when I expected the Lynx logo at the end though.
RE: THE POLICE SACD`S £4.99 @ AMAZON
Sorry, I was just dipping into this debate, I have to say replacing my old Sony 725 with the Pioneer 656A has been sonically phantastic... but is getting expensive! I have Queen: A Night at the Opera and although the 5.1 track is great, the full monty DVD-Audio experience is one that still blows me away! It makes my old speakers and amp (on the list to be replaced... eventually) sound so fresh. There can be a flip side, on some disks the sub can be overworked (hence the wish upgrade to something with more control over this aspect). But that said I have a number of disks on order...
Ooops, I meant to post this as well, I`ve posted this link before but it is a good source of multi-channel music information:

RE: Goodfellas?Blade Runner?
Check at http://www.brmovie.com/BR_Special_Edition.htm for up to date information on the movie... it seems as with all eagerly awaited releases it`s the lawyers fault!

RE: punch drunk love......
I have to admit to seeing this at the weekend with no idea who was in it, what is was about... that comes of being in Paris and not having a clue about what`s on. I thought it is an excellent film, although in some respects disturbing. Nice to see Adam Sandler doing something different.
I think knowing nothing about this film actually made it more interesting, now there`s a thought.
RE: THE POLICE SACD`S £4.99 @ AMAZON
No, the point of both SACD and DVD-Audio is the frequency range is much wider (remember all the Audiophile arguements about why vynl was better...) and so the sound quality is (in theory better). But you do need a fairly good amp and speaker set-up.
Please correct me if I`m wrong ;) !
