Page 1 of Richer Sounds - Acoustic Solutions DVD players - any good?

I have an old Cyberhome I bought from Richer Sounds 2 years ago with the Supercare warranty and think it is time I used the Buy Back option to replace the player with a slimmer silver player.
The Acoustic Solutions ones look good - but do they perform any good?

Needs to be silver finish, play SVCDs, Multi Region and must have Coaxial output connector for sound.

Feedback welcome.

What about the Toshiba 330e? Not sure about SVCD - it`s only listed as VCD, but it fills your other criteria. I`ve been thinking of doing the same as you, but wasn`t sure if you had to wait for the full 3 years?

I used my buy back on something else a few months ago - it can be anytime within three years....

Used my Buy Back to exchange it for a Pioneer DV-360S Silver Multi-region.
Got them to do a Price Beat with Amazon so the 360s only cost me £59.99 and I got £60 buyback for my old player!
Felt a bit bad about the loss Richer Sounds were no doubt making on this so I took out the £9.99 Supercare.

I have an Acoustic Solutions DVD321, and although I like the way it plays anything (multi region dvd, RCE, VCDs, jpeg CDs, audio CDs), the player is of low physical build quality.

I bought mine for 60, so I`m not complaing, but if it went wrong tomorrow, I`d spend more cash on a better one, but saying that before I used to just watch DVDs on my PC, and I prefer using a stand alone DVD player, rather than messing about with PC TV -out cables etc :)

Not sure how good the more expensive Acoustic Solutions are though

the missus` parents have a cheapie acoustic solutions and I was impressed with its playback and ability to play svcd.

Let us know how the Pioneer compares with the Cyberhome, Harry - I may follow your example!!

Well I have tried out DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW and SVCD on it and they all work OK so far.
I feel the picture is better than the Cyberhome M512 I had. I watched the Wolves of Isengard bit of LOTR2 (when the Wargs attack) and the picture did seem slightly sharper and better defined. The colour seemed ever so slightly washed out when I set it to RGB mode. However, it does have user definable display setting to adjust brightness, contrast and Chroma. OR I can adjust my TV.

Also, I had my Cyberhome connected via a decent Digital Coax to my new Videlogic Digitheatre and got crackles during the few films I watched since buying the new speakers. Didnt hear any such crackles with the Pioneer using the same cable (then again I was only watching Bowling for Columbine which hasnt got a demanding soundtrack).

One thing I definitely prefer is the system config menus - much more intuitive and so easier to use. The title and chapter navigation is much easier for home made DVDs or those with awkward/slow menus.

Also, like the fact that I can just do a straight burn of some JPGs from my digital camera on to a CDR and view the pics (with folders etc) on the TV - havent tried it yet but looking at the manual it looks like a easy to use system with zoom etc.

I also think the pioneer looks the biz - only 53mm high/tall and the matt silver goes well with my TV. The cyberhome was like a breeze block compared to this.

I was trying to find some professional reviews of the Player before I bought it and did find one from a link on the AVForums but you had to pay to read the whole review. From memory the summary page did show the player got 5/5 in the review.

Oh - one more bonus for me - my OneForAll remote works with the Pioneer but didnt with the Cyberhome.

The JPGs take a while to load, but look good (depending on your telly). This was one of the reasons this was bought for my parents as a pressy (they love it).

Yep, tried the JPEG viewer yesterday - surprised how slow they are to load up!
Other than that very happy with the Pioneer.
