Fix Windows Firefox blocking connections to Windows Update on the PC.

There's a very good reason Firefox does that.

GWX.exe for one. Firefox blocks automatic updates for the same reason they also block Adobe Flash - they can both be amazingly damaging to your PC if you don;t know what you're doing. I foolishly allowed a whole batch of updates to install themselves a couple of months ago, then found out out one of the updates was essentially a keylogger with anonymous updates back to M$ without the user's knowledge. Took me 2 hours to uninstall the bloody thing.

I have never taken any window updates in any of my computers over the last 8 years, as they cause more trouble than they are worth.

Since buying my last computer a Win XP version, I unclicked window updates from day one, and no problems.

I always feel computer programs put built in troubles, just to keep the programmers in a job correcting problems, he he.

What does GWX.exe have to do with Firefox? Or Windows updates?
Was this keylogger a part of M$? What number was it?
Bandi, that attitude is stupid.

I think we've discussed this naive burying your head in the sand attitude to updates before, you're not fixing the actual issue, you're avoiding it, and potentially causing yourself bigger problems down the line :(

my old pc had a problem with windows updates a few times, i didn't turn them off, i fixed the issue, and carried on using it, I didn't go on a crusade against it :(

Let me rewrite that for you...

Never updated my Windows 98 desktop, except one time M$ were giving away SE upgrade discs. Of course back then I was on dial-up, and online maybe 2 hours a day at 56k. I still had to reinstall that OS once a year, cleaning out a years worth of malware after it slowed down to a crawl, or just plain crashed.

The Vista laptop I've kept updated, only that's a hassle now, as every Patch Tuesday, it takes longer to update, even after pre-installing the kernel speed-up patches. Last week it took 16 hours for it to find updates. 'Luckily' it falls out of support next April, and I can stop updating. Open season for the hackers though. Still, I've never had to reinstall this OS.

sj, GWX.exe was part of some Windows Updates that automatically 'upgraded' eligible versions of earlier Windows versions to Windows 10. I don't think it's relevant now, as free upgrades to Windows 10 were ended a few months back.
