New mobile

My Galaxy S2 has three days to go on it's contract and has decided to go mad.
Won't switch off, random beeps, rearranging stuff without being asked.

So new phone choice.
Thinking about moving away from Samsung and tryin the Sony Z1 compact.
Anyone have any opinions or other suggestions.

BTW I don't want anything bigger than the S2 as I only have pockets not a back pack.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

I have literally just renewed my contract this week... the S2 which although had a few teething problems with the first one sent has been pretty good...

I too though of the Sony, I was thinking about the waterproof aspect, but in reality it is very limited 1.5 meters fresh water... not a torrent/river... and then I though actually it wouldn't get used.

Could have had an iPhone... but I refuse to be a sheep!

In the end I have got an S4 mini - again didn't want a bigger phone, have to say its pretty damn quick as it goes... 8/10 so far!  Best bit is I have more minutes, more texts (largely defunct due to whatsapp!) and data... and its £5 a month cheaper!

I have a Sony xperia e and its pretty rubbish to be honest...i realise it's an entry level phone, but it regularly freezes and drops its signal often for no apparent reason! Would avoid them next time I upgrade to be honest.

My sister went for a Nokia lumia 620 and got shed loads of stuff chucked in for free, alongside £50 cash back and its lots better, might headfor something like that at upgrade time.

Probably a bit more basic than you are aiming for, but that's my two penny's worth!

No, you could be a Google sheep instead, and hand over all your private data to them! :)

Ironically, if you don't want to be a sheep atm you should go and buy a Microsoft phone. Hardly anyone is buying them, and even fewer people are developing software for them.

I have one and it is great! :-) updated to Windows 8.1 developer preview.

I don't need loads of apps but the key ones are there. We ended up getting them for our senior management and they have been very happy with them too.

I've actually got a Lumia 620 and it's a solid little phone. I got it just to give windows phone a punt and I really do like it. May move up to a Lumia 930 when they come out soon. I previously had a generic 5.3" android which was just too big. Office is still better on a windows phone for me too (although microsoft have inexplicably cobbled some of the functionality) Cortana on 8.1 may actually be a useful thing to have too.

People here at work with MS Phones generally seem to like them, what they do, they do well, but are disappointed by lack of apps.

a few people have recent Sony phones and really like them

Samsung and Apple phones are obviously popular as well, and have their fans.

I haven't heard anyone really moan about a phone in ages, apart from the MS phone ppl moaning about the lack of apps, but then they knew that when they bought them!

Samsung all the way for me. Currently have an S4 - love it. Battery life is decent but when I have an early start to the day, e.g. to go to the football, and am out for 12-14 hours at a time always using it, I carry a spare battery with me that I can flip in seconds. Still have around 10 months left on the contract, so will switch to an S5 or its successor if it's out by then. I just don't get the whole i-phone obsession - no expandable memory, no swapping-out of the battery. Eh?

So the Z1 compact it was.
Tempted by an iphone 5c but as Sony are running a promotion to pay £100 on top of the value of any smartphone you trade in....
I didn't like the iphone £100 more.
Now if bloody O2 would just care to switch the b*gger on all will be well.

I have an old flip Captain kirk style phone which cost me £25, many years ago.

It is not smart, it contains only a phone, and crummy multi button version of texting, that takes ten minutes to say 'I will be home at six'

It contains no personal information. It is unlisted, it is pay as you go.

I hope it keeps working forever, as its good for a paranoid person like me.

I always keep it off, to stop the EMF radiation, and only switch it on at 12 and 4 in case the wife phones, or in case of emergencies, and then use it three feet away on speaker phone.

And why did I buy one, when I avoided them for 10 years?
It was the day I could no longer find a public phonebox.
