Page 6 of I thought car insurance was supposed to be cheaper this year?

Sure I read somewhere that your renewal quote from January will not be allowed to be higher, using the same conditions, than those offered to new customers? 
Always bugged me that they did this.

yes, there's no big hefty new business discounts, so everyone gets shafted, the benefits of shopping around aren't as great as they used to be before the laws were changed to "help" us :(

strangely this just popped up again a year after I last posted about how good Admiral were... 

Well this years renewal quote was £210 a jump of nearly £50, i did a quick Meerkat and other searches, and could get at just under the £200, rang Admiral, and they instantly matched it, so whilst its gone up a few quid since last year i'm still pretty happy at that price, i know some friends who have older cars, same age, but because of where they live are 4 times this!

We were with Privilege and the renewal was just over £210, I think about a fiver or so different to last year.
Looked online and there were lots around £160.
Spoke with Privilege who said the price they give is the lowest they can do and wouldn't budge.
Went with Darwin in the end (never heard of them but seemed well regarded on Truspilot etc) for £160.
Strangely, got a letter yesterday from Privilege saying as I didn't us my car much last year they're sending me a cheque for £20.

wow, renewal quote up £40 on last year, price comparison site, £43 cheaper than what i paid last  year!!!

phonecall to current insurer and.....

....£20 knocked off,

said I'd still leave...

....

then got offered the legal cover thrown in for free, and a few other perks you normally pay for and another £10 knocked off!

Apparently the excess is making the quote different, and also, my new quote on aggregator took into account devaluing car an extra year, but their renewal didn't!

still seems like a big jump to me, so guess it's switch time again

need to ring AA now as that's gone up a fair bit :(

Had similar experience with Admiral... got a quote from Sheila's Wheels, and also Esure, both significantly cheaper, and part of the same company!

arrggh, £85 price increase on last year, comparison site can find cover £15 cheaper than what I paid last year, guess another phonecall is coming up towards end of month :(

Same scenario every year for me no matter who I pick. First year using comparison sites I get it reasonable, second year quote it sky rockets so have to hunt again on the comparison sites.

Hastings wanted to add £12 on per month because reasons. Might be something to do with me moving to a house closer to the town centre, but switched to a different company and only paying an extra £4 a month now.

But then a week after the car passes its MOT the exhaust snaps. Yippee indeed.
