RE: I thought car insurance was supposed to be cheaper this year?

Sure I read somewhere that your renewal quote from January will not be allowed to be higher, using the same conditions, than those offered to new customers?
Always bugged me that they did this.

RE: [VIDEO] E3 2021 | Summer Game Fest

2142 and they are still using standard rifles, machine guns, fossil fuel burning  helicopters and tank models from the recent past and present. I was hoping for something a bit more advanced or futuristic.

RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

Took me an hours drive to get each of mine and that's through the Ambulance Service. My mate who is practically wheelchair bound and at risk as is his Mrs had to wait ages to get their first jab and were offered them in ridiculous places bearing in mind they have no transport. Eventually he managed to get his first not too far away by bus. He's been waiting for the second but in the meantime started getting real bad stomach pains and has been diagnosed with diverticulitis. A few days after this diagnosis he got a very brief message to say a nurse was coming to give him his 2nd jab. He wasn't convinced it was legitimate so rang the surgery to confirm and it was. Two days later jab done. He suspects that when the surgery talked to him on the phone and he said the only time he'd left the house since it all kicked off was for his first jab it set some alarm bells ringing.

RE: [VIDEO] death kiss

Not sure but if you like big 80's analogue synth stuff then maybe have a listen to the group called Gunship. Great massive synth sounds and a very 80's film feel.

I did a similar thing with a site called Veep to see a Poppy online gig. Was very well presented.

RE: help with song title

All music by Mike Lawrence is the only credit on there. Found the track mentioned and Shazam doesn't recognise any of the music at all.

RE: help with song title

I'm on it. Downloaded a dodgy version of the film for purely historical education and to find out what this track is?
Honest Guvnor!

RE: [VIDEO] RIP: Prince

I don't think a lot of people realise what an incredible musician he was? His drumming was impeccable, great groove on the bass and guitar like a modern take on Hendrix. There were a lot of nods to Hendrix in phrases and style in what he just played there.

RE: [VIDEO] What are you listening to now??? (Music recomendations)

Here is what you wouldn't expect as a Prog song. Glitching done live. It is crazy how tight the band plays the beginning. Never thought they could pull this off live.

Looking forward to their new album. Modern Progressive Rock that actually doesn't sound stuck in the 70's.
Craig Blundell, their ex drummer played for many people from Steven Wilson to Matt Berry and demoes for Mapex and Roland Drums, Nathan King on Bass the brother of Mark. Jem Godfrey music producer and writer of many top 40 hits and every jingle indent on Radio 2. John Mitchell also front man or guitarist of too many bands too mention and producer of many more.

RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

Not at all convinced that the majority of these who claim they can't wear one have even tried. I've Asthma and manage to wear one for hours on end. Admittedly they don't feel that pleasant when you first ever try one but give it 5 minutes and you don't notice anymore. I've never noticed it restricting my breathing in any sense whatsoever so I tend to call bollocks on that excuse for the majority of people. As for not liking it over the nose and mouth then I also wonder do they never wear a scarf over their face on a really cold day, ever worn a crash helmet. Now that is weird when you aren't used to it. As for the excuse they are useless then we have been wearing one or an RPE hood for over a year, 4 nights a week in a Covid environment and both of us haven't caught it yet and lastly i'd ask the same person if you can't wear a mask to protect others too then in future when family and friends are round and you cough or sneeze then why cover you nose and mouth wit your hand. From now on you should just snot your germs out over them! :)

RE: [VIDEO] Cover Versions (Beware - Old Fogey Music)

And last one I promise. Cover we did with staff from Yorkshire Ambulance for "charidee". We found some awesome vocalists and a crap guitarist.

RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

Finally our staff at the Ambulance Service are getting the jab. Some quite bad side effects in quite a few although only short lived. 48 hours or less. Rapid heartbeat for up to 48 hrs, very raised temps. One got up to 41 degrees, aches, pains, lethargy. Most that have had these said Paracetamol and Ibruprofen really helped. Strangely it is the younger ones getting the most side effects. They've had the Oxford jab. Myself and work colleague who is 63 had the Pfizer one and neither of us had any side effects. There again nobody can believe we haven't had it after all this time as we spend every night cleaning contaminated vehicles whereas I reckon a good majority of the medics have had it. There again we never get ill at all. I've been off once in 11 years when I got flu just before Christmas and that year they'd only jabbed us a week to fortnight earlier so it hadn't had time to have any effect. John's never been off in 8 years. We get a night now and again where someone feels ill in some way, coming down with a cold maybe but next day it is gone. Reckon our immune systems are on overtime and in peak condition.

Covet.
Loving this band and their last album Technicolor. Yvette Young has such a different guitar style with loads of odd tunings, tapping and polyphony. Loads of videos of her stuff on YouTube.
Even ended up buying one of her signature Ibanez Slime Green Sparkle guitars.

Par for the course although in fairness the vehicle itself is a butt ugly piece of dated looking styling on wheels. Hate to think what modern tech it uses. Wonder if it has power steering?

RE: Buying an SSD to upgrade a 4yo laptop

I've done two PC tower SSD upgrades for people and the difference is stunning. As for laptops mine is a Toshiba 4gb Core 2 Duo. For everyday internet browsing stuff and Youtube it works perfectly adequately. Fitted a 540 Samsung SSD to it a few years ago. A massive boost in performance in boot times and swap file performance.
Then if you want to go even more retro than my ancient Toshiba I've upgraded my old Dell Inspiron 1501 Athlon 64 with 2Gb laptop to an SSD drive. Gave it to a mate. Even that has no problem with browsing either even now with Win 10 on it.
One thing to look out for on older laptops and even some only a few years old is the wifi card in them. For less than £10 you can upgrade your connection speed. It is amazing how recently they were still fitting 802.11g 56 Mbps cards in them. I upgraded both the Dell's and mine.

RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

Nearly every one of our Ambulances was stacked up at Hull Royal Infirmary tonight. Four to five hour wait for one. all the normal waste of space calls, some emergencies but many more Covid patients. I've worked all through and I can only describe myself as numbed and angry. Numbed and depressed as I feel my job has become an unappreciated treadmill and angry. No make that really angry with the tin foil hat brigade or the deniers. Hate going out in case some twat opens their mouth and says something along the lines of "It's all about control or it is rubbish all this Covid lark" They get both barrels and invited to spend all shift in full suit and respirator cleaning Covid vehicles for the Ambulance Service. They tend to shut up very quickly. Morale at work couldn't get any lower and I think it is down to continually being told or reading rubbish that people post online.
Can't wait to get away from it all. I've got a fortnight holiday at home to switch off from it all.

RE: Virtual reality

Just got an Oculus Quest 2 and tried it for the first time last night with a flight sim called DCS. Don't really know what I was expecting  except to be able to look around but it completely transforms the game. Every switch and dial has depth. Even the glass on dials. Open the canopy and stick your head out one side and the airflow noise hits you. Amazing nailing a Spitfire along at full boost just above the ground dodging buildings and trees while looking wherever you want. Really does give the nearest impression of flying I've come across.
Pretty much like this but without the irritating in flight music!

RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

There will be a major problem come winter as one of our medics pointed out. Once the flu season kicks in then there will initially be no difference in being able to tell who has Covid and who has flu. Most of the symptoms are identical so extra flu innoculations are being offered this year just in case a spike does occur and initial testing will be required to seperate those suffering from each.
The paramedic who lost his sense of smell and taste after conrtacting it at the end of February is finally starting to get it back. It has taken this long. All very wierd, and he says it is still only just coming back incredibly slowly.

RE: [VIDEO] Tim Smith, Cardiacs frontman has died after long illness

Absolutely gutted. Saw them several times and there was no other band that remotely sounded like them. Blur, Biffy Clyro and many others cite them as a major influence.
You either got it or you'd hate them. A very marmite band. Possibly appreciated more by musicians who actually understood how hard it was to play their stuff. The irony is Tim suffered a stroke and cardiac arrest at the same time some years ago which left him almost paralysed and in constant pain. The fans contributed towards specialist care for him in the past few years. A completely bonker and mad genius.
RIP Tim. Leader Of The Starry Skies.
