Star Wars 3d - Anyone taking the plunge?
So has anyone seen this yet?
I took my 6 and7yr old boys to watch it. Its their first time watching the film.
Its the bluray version - digital Yoda. On a side note if they could replace the puppet yoda with a CGI version couldnt they replace Samuel L Jacksons standin, in the final scene, with a CGI Samual L Jackson?
Wont bother reviewing the film but i would reccomend you read In defence of Episode 1 blog by Scott Mendelson. Someone else who sees it the way I did, as in it wasnt a dissapoitment as we all see star wars films through our 10yr old eyes and we have grown up since etc...
Onto the 3D. Its subtle but good. Due to the way everything is framed, half off screen, nothing really pops out at you - with the exception of some parts of teh pod race and the final attack in space.
My kids loved it. There were two other kids with Darth Maul face paint and my kids are now demainding I do theres as well!
Both my kids and I are looking forward to Ep2.
PS Can they CGI in the above trooper as all the clone warriors? Please? Pretty please?
RE: Star Wars 3d - Anyone taking the plunge?
I think I might be in the minority of people who prefers The Phantom Menace to either of the other prequels, mainly due to the fact that it has some actual photography in it. Revenge Of The Sith was a joke with its godawful CGI saturation and plastic looking sets.
That said, I don`t like it enough to pay to see it again, and I definitely wouldn`t fork out for a crappy 3D upconversion.
Hard to believe it`s been 13 years since it came out.

I quite enjoyed The Phantom Menace, after the initial disappointment. I think maybe I prefer the 2nd one, but the 3rd one is just awful.
I`m quite tempted to try to catch this at an IMAX, it`s the first 3D film since Avatar that has actually tempted me back to the cinema.

No.
Lucas has had as much of my money as he`s ever going to get.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
RE: Star Wars 3d - Anyone taking the plunge?
I intend to see it, but last weekend my local Odeon wasn`t showing it in its Liemax screen, I think if I`m going to see a film I`ve seen at the cinema twice, and own on VHS, DVD and Blu Ray, I may as well go the whole hog! (well if I was going to go the whoel hog I`d drive up to London, bu tI`m not that devoted!) I`m hoping this weekend it will replace Underworld whatever and the Rock`s new film in the Liemax screen.
btw did you get special 3d glasses? I saw Odeon are doing Pod Racer ones, which cost a bit more than the normal ones
RE: Star Wars 3d - Anyone taking the plunge?
I won`t bother with the 3D ones.
I quite liked the original aswell and agreed with a similar "in defence" blog on IGN I read in the past few days.
I wouldn`t be arsed watching in 3D though. I tend to watch new films in 2D even if there is a 3D option, so won`t be bothering with this.
The IGN article I had read.

Bet people will buy the 3D versions when they are released on DVD

Bet people will buy the 3D versions when they are released on DVDI`d be surprised as I was under the impression that this type of 3D requires BluRay capacity.
Unless you mean that red n blue "anaglyph" or whatever it`s called, you get that on DVD but I`m sure one of our more knowledgeable members will correct whichever of us is wrong...

RE: Star Wars 3d - Anyone taking the plunge?
I`d wait for the Blu-ray, and I`d still have to give it some serious thought. So far, I`ve only got three 3D movies - one animation, one shot-for-3D and one post-production conversion. The first two look great, the last is fairly disappointing and TPM will similarly be a post-conversion.
By the time TPM comes out on 3DBD, number of higher profile 3D films should be out - Tintin, Hugo and a couple of others - so maybe I`d be more enthusiastic about TPM, maybe not.
You`ll notice I haven`t made comment on the artistic merit of TPM. Suffice to say I`m not enamoured of the prequels - to be honest I`d rather GL had moved on after the original Star Wars - my interest is purely in the success of the conversion to 3D, and that might not be enough to stump up the premium price the disc is most likely to be sold for.
