RE: Sale of goods act

t`s a 42 inch Toshiba LCD
I had one of those
Quote:
It`s about 5 years old
Same time frame as mine. Unfortunately the company that sold it went out of business and it failed after 2.5yrs, about 2 yrs ago. I contacted Comet who had an offer to repair your tv for £90. They came and said that Toshiba no longer supplied the part. Armed with the report I contacted Toshiba, mentioned the sales of goods act, fit for purpose for 6yrs etc,  and once I supplied them with the receipt and the report they gave me £550 out of the £950 I paid for it.
Then I had a large LCD tv that was useless and couldnt be bothered to take it to the Tip. Advertised it on EBay as broken, with copy of the report and sold it within 2 days for £120

Moral of the story
1. Keep the receipt even if the company you bought it from goes tits up
2. Contact Toshiba direct and mention the sales of goods act - they start responding then.
3. People will buy broken LCDs for decent money.

Good luck

RE: Marvel: The Avengers film

Watched the 2D version today with the kids. Great. Just one question - why did I not see the post credit scene (all of them at a table)? link here We just had the mid credits scene. Is it only on the 3D version? Which mid/post credit scene did you see

Netflix Vs LoveFilm Vs Sky Vs A.N.Other

So I am moving house and getting sky but do I get the movie package again? At the moment its used mainly by the kids for Disney Cinemagic and the Family Movie channel. I watch 1-2 films per month - in HD of course!
I have a ps3 so I could get Netflix or Lovefilm.

Anyone else faced this choice? What`s the difference between the two?

RE: Quidco - Member Refferrel please

And 1mills is the winner
I have sent you a pm.

Quidco - Member Refferrel please

So I want to join Quidco having taken advice on this forum

It seems they are offering a refferel service where a member who refers me gets a £5. So the first quidco member to send me a pm can refer me and get the £5. Why let free money go unclaimed!

RE: New Sky Customer or Moving House Customer?

£115 off Quidco too.
I am probably a bit slow to the game but what is Quidco all about? How does it work and how do I get my money out?

New Sky Customer or Moving House Customer?

I currently have SKY HD and I am moving house in the next few weeks. So the question is:-

Do I just pay for a moving house connection or
Become a new customer? Get the 1TB box!

I can get the new account in the wifes name. My mum, who has sky, can get the £50 M&S vouchers for reccomending a friend.

The only drawback is that I have a lot of stuff on the Sky HD box. How do I get to watch it? Do I just swap the boxes when I want to watch some of teh old stuff?
How cheap is HD multiroom?

Any ideas ?

Star Wars 3d - Anyone taking the plunge?

So has anyone seen this yet?
I took my 6 and7yr old boys to watch it. Its their first time watching the film.

Its the bluray version - digital Yoda. On a side note if they could replace the puppet yoda with a CGI version couldnt they replace Samuel L Jacksons standin, in the final scene, with a CGI Samual L Jackson?

Wont bother reviewing the film but i would reccomend you read In defence of Episode 1 blog by Scott Mendelson. Someone else who sees it the way I did, as in it wasnt a dissapoitment as we all see star wars films through our 10yr old eyes and we have grown up since etc...

Onto the 3D. Its subtle but good. Due to the way everything is framed, half off screen, nothing really pops out at you - with the exception of some parts of teh pod race and the final attack in space.

My kids loved it. There were two other kids with Darth Maul face paint and my kids are now demainding I do theres as well!

Both my kids and I are looking forward to Ep2.

PS Can they CGI in the above trooper as all the clone warriors? Please? Pretty please?

I seem to be one of very few Star Wars fans who loves the originals, and the prequals.

I`m one too!

Saw the trailer last week when I took the wife and kids to watch the Indian film Don 2 in 3D at the Trafford Centre. I asked the kids (5 and 7) do you want to watch that? "YES". Thats my excuse for going and watching the films again - having just watched them again on Bluray.

RE: PS3 YLOD?

Jimbo - I have sent you a PM let me know if you get it. Never done a PM before

RE: Mirtazapine.

I have had my surname mispelt as Mirtazapine before.
Are you after me?

RE: PS3 YLOD?

Thanks for the advice.

It seems that the answers are:-

Yes - its dead. It can be revived by cooking it - but that will only work for a while and will allow me to transfer data. - Shame

I cannot transfer the HDD from the old to the new and retain the data. - Shame
I can download the DLC again - thats okay
I will lose the save files - thats okay as well.

So wheres the best offer to buy a PS3? I can get one with a small HDD as I can just put in the 500GB hd - even if I lose all the data. Is teh HD the same in the old PS3 and the new Slim one?

Hopefully I can sell the PS3 for parts and one of the controllers as I already have two.

Again - thanks for the help

I was talking to a collegue earlier and mentioned the best part of the internet is forums like this where you can list a question/problem and get a great deal of helful advice.

PS3 YLOD?

So I switched on my 40GB FAT PS3 (4yrs old) and it was on for about 5mins and then it powered down. I switched it on Green light - then yellow - then flashing red light.

Does that mean its dead?
Can it be fixed?
Do I need a new one?

I had replaced the HD with 500GB. If I get a new PS3 can I put in the 500GB HD in the new PS3?
Will I keep all my DLC? I have about £80 of stuff on it.

RE: Hardback v Kindle

On the Anti-Kindle angle what will happen to queueing up to get a signed copy of your favourite authors latest?

In my time I have had signed books by Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Micheal Palin, Peter Hamilton and some others. There`s only so much space on the back of the Kindle for the signatures!

Plus you can sell a signed copy at an exorbarant price 10 yrs later!

RE: Tintin

I took my 7 and 5yr old boys, along with the wife and the 6mth old. The wife and teh baby werent impressed but the rest of us were.

I thought it was good but like you said the action in the final chase was hard to follow.

My 7 yr old who has read the books wanted to sit and wait for the next part to come on SPOILER:
as he knew they hadnt gone to find the treasure. I had to explain that he would have to wait for 2yrs.

So the question is who will play Calculus?
The 3D was done well enough that except for two scenes nothing "stuck out" so to speak. Roll on Peter Jackson version.

Uncharted 3 - played by Indiana Jones himself

"In a strange bit of promotion Sony has a six minute clip showing the original Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford, playing the highly anticipated PS3 video game "Uncharted 3" Drake`s Deception".
Here

Its like watching your dad/grandad play a game!

RE: Stephen King`s The Dark Tower

Don`t pass up the opportunity to complete this, it is a really satisfying read all the way to the end, which is....well, wouldn`t want to spoil it for you...
Ah..yes.. the ending. Glad someone else agrees.

Well worth reading the series. Get the illustrated versions if you can as some of the artwork is brilliant.

RE: Star Wars on Blu Ray 2011

Got mine instire at tesco £60. I had a £5 off over £50voucher for any DVD, Electrical etc as I spent more than £50 last week. So I got the set for £55.

Put on the Original Trilogy Archives first as I wanted to take a look at all the deleted scene. Most of teh Ep IV were on the Behind The Magic CD-rom that was out in the 90s. The Wampas do look rediculous. Couldn`t have been more 30s serial Flash Gordon if they tried.

Will take a look at the films at the weekend.

State of Neighbours house causing damp in mine? Advice

I have a house that I rent out. The back wall on the neighbours house, its terraced, is damaged - bricks missing - no mortor in places. It has caused damp in the adjoining wall. It has also caused damp in the house on the other side of his.

The thing is he is never in when I go. I have sent a couple of letters. All I got was an abusive phone call.

What are my options?
The first time I sent a letter round and was abusive to the tennant. I have a new tenant, a single parent, and I dont want to cause her any hassle. If he is abusive to me on the phone the chances are he would go round again.

The damp is getting to where the tenant is thinking of moving out.

I have landlord insurance. Should I go through them? Would insurance companies cover this sort of thing?

Advice please.

RE: Madeleine

What I couldnt get my head round that two weeks after one child is "abducted" they jet off to see the pope and leave their other child back at home with her aunt.

If one of my children were abducted I wouln`t let the others out of my sight let alone with there Aunt whilst I go a fly to another country.

Need to replace Vista with XP

I have had a Dell laptop for about 3-4yrs with Vista and its getting slower and slower. I would like to format and start again but want to install XP to speed it up. Do you know of any reputable places that sell original copies of XP for erasonable prices?

I found it for £22 at http://www.mswinxpro.co.uk/index.htm but it looks dodgy. I mean they cant even get the colours of the text correct.

The Millenium Trilogy

Now that all three films have been released will we get the original mini-series version thats 9 hours in length? Any ideas when its coming our way?

That was on this week!

Classic Saturday Night Live on Sky Arts 1

Caught this one whilst flicking through the listings on Sky Arts 1 on Saturday Night. They are repeating Saturday Night Live from 1975 (I think teh first series). It stars Jim Belushi, Dan Ackroyd & Chevy Chase.

Enjoy

RE: Louie Spences Showbusiness: the work of the devil, or genius spoof?

I couldn`t decide if he is a spoof Bruno/Ali G style character since I first saw a trailer for the first documentary series "Pinapple Studios" last year. If its a character then the guy that`s playing him is a genius - if not then he`s one of the wierd and wonderful characters that this country seems to find and put on tv.

Is it illegal to lie about the price you sold a house for?

A friend of mine is selling his house to his mate. He bought it for £105k and is selling it for £90k. His mate wants him to tell his lawyers he sold it for £65k, even though he is paying the full selling price.

Is that illegal? He is not getting round capital gains tax cos he is loosing on it. He is not using it as a right off as he is in full time employment. So is it illegal?
