problem with DENON DRA-F102DAB reciever
Hi, I wonder if any one can help, I`ve got one of the above recievers and have been using its optical output to record on Mini-disc. after a recent rearrangement of my living room, this output seems to have stopped working. does anyone know if there`s a setting somewhere which might switch this output on and Off ? I can`t find one on the menus, but may be missing a trick
thanks in advance

transferring data from one Palm PDA to another
Has anyone transferred data for a Palm M505 using Palm OS 4.1.4 and put it on either a Palm Tungsten E2 or Palm T/X using Palm OS 5.4 ??
I assume this would be OK, BUT I don`t want to lose the data if I do this

Postal question
Hi Folks,
Anyone know what the deal is for undelivered stuff for commercial addresses over the Christmas holiday.
i ordered some stuff from DVD Pacific and got it sent to my works address - it`ll be a big package, and I was going to be away for the week before Christmas anyway.
HOWEVER, it hasn`t arrived yet and our office is now closed until the New Year.
Will the PO hang on to it until then or will they send it back ?
Thanks
Steve
RE: Got an acrobat font problem
Have a look in Edit, preferences, then select the Page Display Category.
There`s an option on there called Use Local Fonts. Change that, and maybe that`ll work.
Also Verdana I think is a standard font in Office, at least I`ve got it on my machine, try searching for Verdana on your machine.
If you`ve got Verdana on your Pc and the above trick in Acrobat doesn`t work, maybe you need to reinstall Acrobat ?
Hope some of this helps

RE: Best site for CD front covers...??
If you`re just after a jpg for something other than iTunes, why not use Amazon ?
Go to the entry for the album, enlarge the cover, and then right click and save picture as...
should work for most mainstream albums.
`Course it might be illegal in some way, but I`m not sure how
Pixar short films
Anyone know if this has a R2 release before Christmas?
The person I want to get this hasn`t a multiregion player.
Thanks

RE: converting MP2 to MP3
you can use iTunes to change the MP2 direct to an MP3, if you set the
Preferences/Advanced/importing option to MP3 rather than AAC. then simply import the file, it should be automatically converted. If it imports, but remains an MP2, then simply right click on the file, and select Convert Selection to MP3.
This should work as a friend of mine has done it from files derived from a PURE DAB system
RE: Oh my gawd! It`s IRON MAN.. And it rocks!
I just love the way they drop the Sabbaffff track in as backing....magic!!!!!!!
RE: weird wireless router problem

RE: can i replace old pace telewest box for new shiney virgin media box??

oh and you still keep the old one upstairs (or wherever)
BBC iPlayer problem !!!
I signed up for the beta version of the BBC iPlayer, but I can`t get it to download anything.
As soon as I try to download, it pauses and I get a message saying I need to upgrade the security on my media player, but clicking on Yes to upgrade nothing happens !! If I restart the download, it APPARENTLY loads, but will not play and if I select NO on the security upgrade window, everything disappears.
My WMP is up to date according to Microsoft. I`ve put the bug on the message boards, but haven`t had any replies yet.
Anyone else trying this and having problems ??
Ot any suggestions ???
Cheers

RE: ipod question...just bought an ipod video...
It should be picked up by iTunes and be synchronised with your library. Itunes MAY ask you if you want this iPod synchronising, then again it may not.
You might want to set the Pod to work as a Hard disk, and set it to manual sychronisation.
Mind you, backing up your library might not be a bad idea, just in case......
my PC won`t operate some websites properly
I`ve just noticed that for some reason some websites aren`t working properly on my PC - for example, on the IKEA site I can`t see pictures on the individual product pages although the thumbnail pics show up OK, also I can`t download manuals from the Panasonic site as My PC refuses to open a new window to download them.
Both of these sites work fine at the office, so its not a problem with the sites.
Can anyone help ???
RE: 1080p vs 1080i can you see the difference ?
Thanks folks, I was thinking in terms of future proofing, so that when the HD format war finally sorts itself out, I`ve already got the screen and can then go down the HD disc route without too much worry about whether the screen is up to it
I`m also on Virgin Media cable and might, and I emphasise might go down their cable HDTV route.

RE: 1080p vs 1080i can you see the difference ?
I`m thinking of a 37" and sitting about 6- 10 feet away
`Course if the difference is trivial, I might get a 42 " !!
1080p vs 1080i can you see the difference ?
I`m going to be buying a new HDTV in August (money permitting !!), and am wondering whether I`m likely to need a 1080p set or if a 1080i system will do.
The question is, can you actually SEE a difference.
I`m only a simple viewer, and while I appreciate the technicalities, don`t want to pay for something that I can`t see.
(When I might be able to use the extra to buy a bigger TV!!)
RE: Casino Royale - which region has the best cut??
Quote direct from the BBFC
This film was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version, for advice as to the film`s suitability at `12A`. The BBFC advised the company that the torture scene placed too much emphasis on both the infliction of pain and the sadism of the villain for the requested `12A` category. When the completed version of the film was submitted for classification, reductions to the torture sequence had been made, including the removal of lingering shots of the rope, close shots of Bond`s facial reaction and the substitution of a more distant shot of the beating compared to the original version. This re-edited version of the scene was considered acceptable at `12A`, where the Guidelines permit violence provided there is no dwelling on detail or emphasis on injuries
So in the UK there was no `uncut` version shown, whether that applied to US I don`t know.
What it DOES mean of course is that there may be an "alternate" cut of the torture sequence which might come out later on a(nother) DVD release
RE: Customs question
Cheers,
Guess next time, I`ll have to make separate orders....and watch the P&P !
Customs question
Does the £18 limit on importing stuff (without being stung for customs) apply per item or per parcel. Just got done for a parcel containing 3 DVD sets, each only about £13, but got almost £10 customs charge :o :o

Viewing distances
Can anyone tell me if there`s a formula to work out a minimum viewing distance for a LCD screen ?
I`m thinking of upgrading from a 26 inch WS to something larger (I`m thinking 37 inch), but want to be sure that I can sit far enough away so that I don`t strain the eyes or see minor imperfections.
A friend has a 37 inch, but only uses it for Xbox gaming (!), and only sits about 4 feet away !! I`ve tried DVD`s on it and can see movement smearing on it from his normal position, but a bit further away, the smearing seems to disappear. I can`t get too far from the screen as he has it in a narrow part of his house.
thanks
Steve
RE: It only happens in the movies
Can I just chip in a 57a....
The counter will read 001, UNLESS The bomb is being disarmed in the presence of, not necessarily by James Bond, when the counter will always be 007, for an extra(?) laugh. See Goldfinger and Octopussy (I think)
RE: Pan`s Labyrinth - nowhere to be seen
I know everyone wants to see this at the cinema, but for those who can`t get to a cinema showing it, Play has the DVD as due on 12th March 2007
RE: Pan`s Labyrinth - nowhere to be seen
It`s not just the North, I live in Kent and the best I could manage was to go into London !!
Mind you, the Odeon Covent Garden was cheaper than the Odeon in Maidstone !!
you work it out !!
the film by the way is fantastic, in all senses of the word.
I`m still tryting to work out whether it`s a happy or sad ending...I`m plumping for happy at the moment...believing the "fantasy" to be real.
Or am I getting all deep and meaningless here ?? :/ :)
