Casino Royale - which region has the best cut??

ckerr (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 11th February 2007, 12:27

Hi,

I have heard Casino Royale was cut by the BBFC before its release into UK cinemas. Now that it is coming out on DVD does anyone know if this will be the cut or uncut version?

If its cut any idea which region will be uncut?

Chris

As I understand the situation, it was cut in the US before it ever made it to the UK. All subsequent releases are based on this version, so there is no magical `uncut` release.

Quote direct from the BBFC

This film was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version, for advice as to the film`s suitability at `12A`. The BBFC advised the company that the torture scene placed too much emphasis on both the infliction of pain and the sadism of the villain for the requested `12A` category. When the completed version of the film was submitted for classification, reductions to the torture sequence had been made, including the removal of lingering shots of the rope, close shots of Bond`s facial reaction and the substitution of a more distant shot of the beating compared to the original version. This re-edited version of the scene was considered acceptable at `12A`, where the Guidelines permit violence provided there is no dwelling on detail or emphasis on injuries

So in the UK there was no `uncut` version shown, whether that applied to US I don`t know.
What it DOES mean of course is that there may be an "alternate" cut of the torture sequence which might come out later on a(nother) DVD release

cheers for that - two things I really hate, the 12A certificate and re-released ultimate editions of special editions of limited editions DVDs - followed by both the blue Ray and HD format release. I refused to buy the new Bond set as I have the old Bond set and my PS3 on order so will at least have Blue Ray to play with.
