Can you unlock an i-phone bought in America?
Friend might be able to get me one in America soon - will it work over here? Any ideas - greatly appreciated.
Best Wishes

Yes you can use it in the UK - it is a GSM device. However, no 3G support so no 3G calling etc. Edge support in the UK is sketchy IMO. However, the device is deffo a good one.
You can unlock it also - easily, even though the current firmware update has bricked iphones, but you can jailbreak that easily. You need a mac to do it though - google for it, there are tonnes of websites. Forgotten where i saw.

Beware though, apparently a recent software update has locked all iPhones that have been unlocked. Saw this on the BBC page somewhere...

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

Here is a blow-by-blow of how to repair a bricked iphone. It CAN be done, contrary to popular ignorance :)
But of course - you have to be ready to repair and suffer a couple of days outage whenever you upgrade firmware. Alternatively you could switch off the updates and enjoy the phone as it is. After all, initially - how often did you update the firmware on your fecking phone?
