RE: RunKeeper

I`ve been using Runkeeper on my iphone for a few months now, and was really pleased with it until the last IOS4 update. Since then I`ve found the gps signal drops out at an annoying rate.
Fantastic, and accurate when it does work though ;)

RE: Iphone 3g Q

As with my broadband connection, I`ve had varying degrees of connection speed with 3G, edge etc. At best I`ve had 898 kbps, and at worst, no service at all.

RE: POLL: Do you like, dislike or don`t care about tattoos?

For the most part, I see a lot of tattoos in the same way as I see gold jewelery, in that the desired effect sought by the `wearer` falls well below their expectations - in my humble opinion of course ;)

RE: Sky - Cancel then refer same house...

I`ve done this twice now with sky, but only with standard sky, and then up to sky plus. Since then we now get tv, phone, and broadband from them, so it gets a bit messy trying cancel, and start anew.

RE: How would the world change and what would you do if you woke up tomorrow and there was no intern

I`d turn my router off, then on again relentlessly in vain, in the hope that it would come back ;)

The hackneyed bleat of the `careful` driver.
Surely this is only a problem when you`re trying desperately to stay juuust [sic] under the speed limit? Do yourself, and others a favour, and just drop down 5 or 10 miles per hour. That way, the worst that happens is your a few minutes later than normal.

RE: Just won a small arguement with Vodafone - so why am I still ticked off?

Quote:
They have the cheek to write me a snotty letter threatening leghal action over a trifling amount, then with one, if not angry, then very miffed, phone call, the amount they were so concerned about just vanishes

Are these letters not automated? I`ve always thought that this kind of letter is written so `aggressively` just so that it hits home that money is due asap. Saves them sending letter after letter asking customers in debt nicely for monies owed, only for them to toss the letter in the bin because there is no sense of urgency in the demand. It`s a classic scenario of old for people to wait for the red bill to come in before paying a bill (does this still happen?)
At least when confronted they did waiver the charge. Some would have dug their heels in and insisted you pay. And when all is said, and done, you did owe the money... and we`ve all seen Superman III, so we know how much those `trifling amounts` can soon add up ;)

RE: Conflict with a work colleague - opinions please

What I can`t believe is that you haven`t had the rest of the office biting your hand off for the XBOX...
Does this bloke carry a bit of weight in the office then? Had I been told by someone that they`d just been offered an Xbox Elite for £50, and they were convinced the seller was pulling a fast one, my response wouldn`t have been to console (no pun intended there) him for the lucky near miss rip off he`d just experienced. I`d have excused myself, telling him I just had to nip out to the bank for a quick withdrawal ;)

RE: Actor Ian Carmichael dies at 89

Quote:

couple of fairly obvious reasons for that:
a) I wasnt coming on the site when it happened
b) i considered his death in quiet dignity

Call me a pedant, but you did post it (albeit belatedly) on a public forum, so bang goes the quiet dignity.
Perhaps your very comment answers the question as to why such postings are so random :D

have to say though, the RIP threads are too random. J D salinger died last week...
Not even a mention. He wrote one of the greatest American books ever

Begs the question why you didn`t post yourself, if you had such respect for the man... ;)

What`s with all these charity collection bags?

Now, I consider myself a charitable sort of person: donating a few quid per month to my chosen charities, dropping the odd bag load off at the local Cancer Hospice, and filling a door step collection bag or two now and then, but how much bric a brac do these charity orginisations think we have?
Yesterday, I counted 42 unused door step collection bags in a box we keep for plastic bags, of which, 6 of them were received in the last fortnight.

At least I`ll never want for a bin liner...

I thought I must have been on the Sun`s website...

...when reading the BBC`s report that quitting smoking increases the risk of developing diabetes, but in true tabloid style (after the sensationalised headline of course!), the real reason of increased weight gain is given as the contributory factor a few lines down.
Granted the two can be linked, but woeful journalism all the same.

RE: ITV HD on Sky HD

Retrogeezer, and moods, do you have Amstrad boxes per chance?
Had this same problem myself, and after removing the channel, then adding it again, (repeated this twice actually) everything was OK - watching the FA Cup now :)

Oh, you mean the largest, and fastest access to information known to man?
I could have forgiven the question, had it not been followed by that most puerile, and prevaricated of abbreviations.

Grumble over ;)

RE: My letter of complaint to Amazon.co.uk

My job involves a lot of mail order transactions, and as much as I sympathise with you, I also sympathise with Amazon here too. As you have entered a contract with them to supply your blue ray player, they too have entered a contract with HDN to take it from their depot, and deliver it to you.
On countless times, I have done my best to process an order, and get it out for next day delivery, only to have our courier let me down with the kind of feeble excuse that you were given, that the driver couldn`t find the address... These days, a driver doesn`t even need a sat nav - a phone with an internet connection, and google maps is all that is needed, but still I get that kind of excuse on an all too regular occurrence.

Fingers crossed your player turns up soon sir :)

RE: Sennheiser CX500 Headphones (White) £17.99 (RRP £69.99)

I picked a pair of these up from Amazon, and promptly put them back in the packaging and sent them back. Great if you are looking for a bargain, but a decent pair of earphones they are not.
Little to no bass whatsoever, and annoying ear buds that click in your ear when you`re adjusting their position - which this close to the eardrum is painfully loud.

RE: can i send messages to some1 connected to PSN from my PC?

Was thinking about this myself the other day, as I do it all the time with friends that are on the Xbox Live Network. (via my own XBL account)
I tried signing up to the PSN network online, which was OK, but to add friends, you have to do it through a PS3, so the next time I`m at a friends house with a PS3, I was going to set up a user name via their machine, and see how that goes.
Hope that helps!

RE: Digital Big Brother will cut you off

My heart really does bleed lumpy custard for the movie industry and their lost profits, given what they do reap from movie goers:
ch ching

As for music, the biggest cut of any format (including digital) has, and I`m sure always will go to the retailer, and the record company - the band themselves are probably about 5th in the queue, so even when we were paying up to £15 for a cd, they were probably only seeing about £2 of that.
Long before file sharing raised it`s `ugly` head, live music, and merchandise sales kept many a band afloat when record sales were been low - and in my experience, this was generally because record companies didn`t do enough to promote most of the bands on their label.
Record companies are well aware of the revenue that can be gleaned from playing live, so much so, that new bands` contracts will invariably have a clause that allows the record company a % of those takings too.

RE: Work email account - private or not?

Things have certainly kicked off now, and not with the person whose email account had been accessed, as you would think... As this person was until only a very short time ago, the dept.manager, all the emails discussing her subordinates` pay reviews have been read, along with their personal details, and of course the one thing that`s guaranteed to start a ruckus in any work place, their salaries. (:¦ So now they are all banging on the MD`s door asking why these emails were available for `all` to see, and why he`s on more money than me, blah, blah, blah, whilst the person at the centre of this has been OK about it, mainly in the knowledge that the company really have scored an own goal here :D
