Can anyone recommend a book?

Bezzawezza (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 21st October 2009, 07:57

I have been struggling to find a good book to read lately and I know there a few fellow readers on here so can anyone suggest anything? I`m usually an adventure thriller sort who likes the stuff like Dan Brown and early Matthew Reilly stuff (not the recent rubbish mind). My ideal would be a book in the style of the TV series 24 but I am failing to find anything, even the 24 books are rubbish and written by a four year old!

give patrick robinsons nimitz class a try, it`s not in the same vein as 24, but it`s an excellent military thriller, & if you like it there are about 12 books in the series :)

& if you want the audiobook of it, gimme a bell ;)

I have never listened to an audiobook and always thought I would end up paying more attention to the persons voice than the actual story. Is that the case in practice?

imo, the narration is half the book`s value, for instance, a run of the mill book becomes easy listening if it`s narrated properly, but even the best book is hard going if it`s poorly narrated, the patrick robinson books are narrated by one of my favourite`s, George Guidell,

i know what you mean, but it`s not really the case with an audiobook, if anything it`s more immersive (sp if thats even a real word lol)

hope this helps.

I`m a big fan of Big Finish Audio-some drama, some audio books-they have done Dr Who for ten years but now doing Robin Hood, Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, Judge Dredd (very funky) and Dark Shadows (vampires etc)
and they do funny podcasts cos its Nick Briggs the dalek man innit

Excellent read, as are most of Mr Brookmyre`s books.
Try The Sacred Art of Stealing too!

I`m glad you said "most" there V.
There`s been a couple that weren`t to my liking. But on the whole his books are very entertaining.

I have "Pandaemonium" sitting on my desk waiting to be read at the mo (when I get a chance).

Bezza, what are you gonna use for playing the book, I only ask cos if your gonna use an iPod/iPhone I`ll send you the books in m4b format, it`s miles better than mp3 because it`ll automaticaly bookmark your position etc.
