RE: Rucksack recommendations...

Mate,

dont` worry too much about the zip-together bag thing, `cos once you`re 2 months in you`ll never put them together you`ll have so much misshapen rubbish in there the zips will bust.

And that washbag on the outside... you`ll want to stick it inside most of the time or it`ll get dragged off by keen porters / bus drivers.

Just get a decent straight-up rucksac with top and bottom opening, and a small separate daysac. And you can always buy that washbag to stick inside.

Have you thought about something like the berghaus mule? Has wheels for dragging, and straps for shoulders. If you`re not trekking for days it`s ok on your back for a while.

Northface are also top knotch.

RE: Samsung LE37R87BDX - Now got it!

<Removes lurking cloak>

Hello,
I`ve just taken the plunge and purchased the Samsung LE32R87 - and will pick it up this weekend. I`ve got the Acoustic Energy Aego P5 surround stuff so shouldn`t be worried about the reputedly poor tv sound.

However I`ve got an old DVD player, and was wondering whether I now need to buy another one to benefit from a better picture with DVD upscaling? This sounds good, but I know nothing - any recommendations please?

cheers
Fergus

RE: VW GOLF

I would recommend looking at the Seat Altea - a bit taller, but much lower list price and the TDI 140 is rather nippy

RE: [Rpoints] £108 worth of wine for £15.93 Delivered !!

My parcel arrived today, so many thanks for the tip off.

Now to find out just how rough wine can taste at £1.33 a bottle. Me thinks the second will be better than the first....hic...!

RE: What`s your favourite freeware- here`s mine

old thread but thanks to the original person for the recommendation for CD ex - seems to work very well.

RE: Got my first Xmas present. :-D

Hello,

this sounds like a top Xmas item for my parents, who currently only have 5 channels and a VCR...
Can someone mention how easy this is to use with the program guide etc. Particularly for short-sighted people!

thanks in advance

RE: I`m looking for cheap car hire in New York, Can you help

Don`t know if they do New York, but just booked similar length trip in Canada for £170 with Alamo.com - worth a look

RE: Brass Eye DVD Only £6.99 Delivered

still quite cheap on Amazon (but then add p&p...)

RE: Digital camera asking to format card in the middle of taking pics - HELP>>

I crapped up a flash card once, and got back almost all the pictures with PhotoRescue.

Top company customer service, and the free download shows what it can get back before you pay them so you don`t waste cash.

What is the cheapest tri-band payg?

Hello,

can anyone point me in the direction of a cheap Orange-compatible (or unlocked) tri-band mobile?

many thanks

RE: RE:

Splendid - Blackadder halfprice, and a Michael Palin book too.

RE: Audio signal from VCR / cable box to 5.1 system

Thanks I`ll try that tonight - otherwise I shall get one of those Argos scart switchers and take the audio out from there instead.

RE: Please Help Me With Scarts!

To you people who`ve picked up the magic Argos scart switcher, does it have 2 phono out sockets taking the sound of whatever is on the tv screen? Or is there only a scart signal output?

cheers

Audio signal from VCR / cable box to 5.1 system

Hello,

I am trying to get audio signals from my VCR and the telewest cable box to my 5.1 speakers, but neither box have audio-out sockets - only scarts. The pace box is daisy-chained through the vcr to tv using these.

I`ve connected the tv audio-out to the 5.1 controller, but the audio-out doesn`t switch to the relevant scart, and only outputs the terrestrial tuner sound, whatever is on screen.

Is there a cunning way round this problem (preferably without buying a better tv!)...

thanks

Fergus

RE: Maplin 8 in 1 touch screen remote control

Does this have a connection so you can program it via pc?

Views on the Denon SCAV flat speakers / Yamaha HTR 5640 amplifier

Hello

I`m upgrading system, and wanted to get some opinions from you good people...
Has anyone got a set of these speakers, and are they any good?
I`m thinking of putting them on a Yamaha HTR 5640 Amplifier, so if anyone has any better suggestions (for either speakers or amplifier - max price of £450 all in)
please reply.

many thanks

RE: Excel can`t subtract ??

I`ve had this too. Strange. You can get around it by using the ROUND function to 2dp.

eg: =if(round(A1-A2,2)<=0.42,"true","false")

Simple home network sharing a blueyonder connection

Hello,

I noticed a few other threads about this, but I am looking for a bit more basic advice.
I have blueyonder broadband and their box thing is linked to my pc network card using RJ45.

I want to add another computer to this `network` - so I guess I need a router, unless 3-ended cables exist.

So how easy is this to do, and what order do things need to be connected up?

I`m using Win2k Pro, if it makes a difference.

Any help much appreciated.

RE: ONE-FOR-ALL REMOTE

Thankyou all - looks like Argos will be getting my money - searched the Toys`r`Us website for `remote control`, and almost got a toy car instead...

RE: ONE-FOR-ALL REMOTE

thanks people

Not got a more store unfortunately - are they on the web?

I understand from my other half that the remote needs to be `small and stylish on the coffee table`...

any other suggestions?

ONE-FOR-ALL REMOTE

Hello,

having sorted my system consisting of a variety of manufacturers items, I want one remote control to do everything - tv, video, DVD, stereo, satelite...

Has to be simple to use, and not ridiculously expensive!

Any recommendations?

thanks

RE: PAL>NTSC NTSC>PAL

You mentioned earlier that playing US dvds on some UK player results in b&w signal.
I`ve got one of those Toshiba SD330 - is there any way around this, or is the problem my dodgy tv?
