ONE-FOR-ALL REMOTE

fergus4 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 15th October 2003, 12:51

Hello,

having sorted my system consisting of a variety of manufacturers items, I want one remote control to do everything - tv, video, DVD, stereo, satelite...

Has to be simple to use, and not ridiculously expensive!

Any recommendations?

thanks

I use the One For All designed to control 5 devices. It is the newer model which has the built in modem so that you can download the codes fro new devices.

I like it because it does it exactly what it is supposed to do but the rest of my family, all females, find it a bit large and clumsy, particulalry when compared with the peanut that came with our Tivo.

If u have a More Store then they do a cheapo one for £5 and i t does 2 sep tvs and 6 other devices like dvd/vhs/aux and so on so a total of 8 devices.

I got two cos if one fails the other kicks in :) cos there god damn cheap. Manual is a bit hard to read at first but easy when u have read it a few times.

thanks people

Not got a more store unfortunately - are they on the web?

I understand from my other half that the remote needs to be `small and stylish on the coffee table`...

any other suggestions?

Small and stylish usually equals `expensive` - tho the definitions of small , stylish and expensive are all subjective of course.
I use a One For All 6 to control all my modest gear (Sony TV , VCR , Sky Digibox and DVD) - plenty of keys , pre-programmed and learning facility , not too big (considering it will work six pieces of kit) and a nice silver colour which looks ok on the coffee table. Link here for Argos at £29.49 (although I`m sure it can be bought cheaper).
One For All 5 (latest version) looks very similar , almost as good , also pre programmed and learnable ,bit cheaper.
Full details of the whole range on One-For-All website.

On the bargains forum there was a remote for £7 or £8 from Aldi - see the thread may be worth checking to see if there`s any left.

Very doubtful, Peter - Aldi specials only last a week, especially given that each store only get about 20 each :(

Have to wait until October 2004 now :(

However, apparently Tuys R Us do the same model with learning abilities for a smidge over £12 :)

Thankyou all - looks like Argos will be getting my money - searched the Toys`r`Us website for `remote control`, and almost got a toy car instead...
