RE: DVD-r to DVD-r/w
Can you post a bit more info on a) what`s on the DVD+R`s (ie dvd video or data) and b) what software you tried (and do you have any other dvd burning software) as it is certainly possible to do what you want (well for data at least).

RE: CSI - Timeline help needed :)
Quote:
Apart from the pilots, none of the episodes from any of the series cross over, unlike Buffy/Angel
There is a crossover in the current CSI Miami Season (episode 407) and CSI New York Season (episode 207) being shown in America. Starts in Miami and finishes in New York.

RE: Why are the centre and rear speakers not working on my home theatre kit?
Quote:
When I go into the audio set-up menu, I can adjust the options for subwoofer and front speakers, but can`t fiddle about with centre or rear lot - the options are `greyed out`.
Looks like you have your dvd player setup to only output stereo/downmix to stereo. There should be an option to output 5.1 in one of the setup menus.
RE: Problems Playing my CDR`s on my DVD
What format have you burnt to CDR. If it is VCD or SVCD you have to apply a hack according to www.dvdrhelp.com

RE: Pioneer 420H Problems with - RW discs
Does it playback in 420 after finalising?
RE: Championship (Div 1) Play-Off Dates
1st Leg = Saturday 14th May or Sunday 15th May
2nd Leg = Wednesday 18th May or Thursday 19th May
They are being played at the club`s own ground with the club in the higher position getting the home tie in the 2nd leg.
RE: how much does it cost to post a parcel to Hong Kong?
Depends how you package it up etc. but `small packet` (100g, which should be ample if you are just sending the disc back) to Hong Kong is £1.37. This is the minumum price for a `small packet`.
You may be able to do it cheaper with letter post if it is less than 40g (mail lite envelope + 1 disc is approx. 20g) - upto 20g is 68p and upto 40g is £1.05
Both of these go airmail and you will probably have to complete a CN22 customs form at the Post Office

RE: Transferring AVI to HDD/DVD recorder
Well I think you have a number of options, but you will have to decide what is the best way, depending on if you want to spend any money and/or your PC/Panny capabilities.
Option 1 - burn you AVI files as data files to DVD and purchase a DVD player capable of playing back AVI files. Connect your DVD player to your Panny and record them in realtime
Option 2 - convert/burn them as DVD VR files on your pc and import them to your Panny
Option 3 - if your digital camera has an AV lead then you may be able to connect this to your Panny and record direct from the digital camera
Option 4 (I suppose this should have been option 1 really) - try and sort out your PC conversion/burning process. When you say that your converted DVD`s stutter when played back elsewhere - does that mean that your Panny plays the back perfectly? Have you checked your converted files to make sure they play back perfectly before burning to DVD? Do you use the same blank media in both your Panny and your PC DVD burner? What software/settings are you using to to convert your AVI`s?
RE: Where can I find a list of DVD-RW VR mode compatible software? My DVD-Rom can read finalized VR d
This link lists software for DVD+VR, which I assume should all work with VR on DVD-RW as well.
Edit - it looks like DVD-VR is a different standard to DVD+VR, but that list may still be good starting point.
My own experience is that I can play back DVD-VR with Power DVD and I can import DVD-VR with Nero Express 3; I haven`t looked any further as I don`t often need to copy DVD-VR onto my PC, so Nero Express 3 is good enough.

RE: Is 54 Mbps wireless good ? Part 2
It depends what you want to do with your wireless network. If all you want to do is share an internet connection then the 11 Mbps card/adapter will be fine, but if you want to share large files between the PC`s then you may be better off getting the 54 Mbps card/adapter.

RE: About to buy DVD Rewritef for PC - what media?
It depends what DVD player you have really. Most will play both + and -, but some will only play one or the other and even fewer will not play either type at all. If you know that your player will playback one type or the other then stick to that, otherwise head over to www.dvdrhelp.com and you can find out what discs your dvd player will playback.
For what you want to do there is no difference between the different types of media. There are a couple of other threads going on for dvd media (in this forum, PC`s and Mobiles and the Bargain Buckets forum) so you may want to have a look in there for guidance on good/bad media and where to buy from.

The chaps name was buyblanks. Excellent service and prices so if youve got a paypal account you could do a lot worse.
A word of warning - don`t buy from him on ebay; go to his website www.buyblanks.co.uk for much cheaper prices eg Verbatim 4x DVD-RW 10 pack are £11.95 on the ebay shop, but only £7.95 on the website; TDK 8x DVD-R 25 pack are £13.20 on the ebay shop, but only £9.75 on the website. You can still use paypal to order on the website and delivery charges were the same last time I checked.

DVD Decryptor doesn`t burn dvd`s though does it?
Yes it does, but only ISO mode. It can also be used to burn the output from DVD Shrink if you don`t have/want Nero.
RE: My New 16x Speed Burner Makes No Difference????
Do you have DVD Decrypter? If so load it up and stick a blank in the drive - does 8x show up as an available burn speed?
Have you tried burning at 8x rather than max?

RE: Pioneer 420 8x 4x 2x Discs... Does it matter which one??
Hi apoel,
I`ve just got a Pioneer 520 and the manual states that the tuner is able to receive PAL B/G, PAL I, SECAM L & SECAM D/K, so am pretty sure the 420 will be the same. I got mine from here - very quick delivery (ie next day). They are doing the 420 for £329.90 with an option to make it multiregion for £9.99 - I think delivery would be £7.99 to UK. I think Richer Sounds are doing it instore for £350 multiregion if you don`t want to buy on the web.
RE: The Empire Strikes Back, Split Screen version on Bit torrent...
It was posted on the newsgroup (a.b.starwars) a while back.
RE: Telewest Overhauls Broadband Speed.
Thanks, although this info was posted in the PC forum on Thursday.

If you get this The Complete Series 1 To 7 (Box Set) (Nine Discs) (£69.99) and this Only Fools & Horses: Christmas Specials Boxset (£19.99) will that be the entire OF&H episodes (excluding Comic Relief type stuff)?
No you would still be missing Series 8 and all the specials listed here except the specials S-1, S-2 and S-3 as they were all included with Series 1-3; Series 9 was released as the Xmas box set linked above.

RE: 2 BOXES OF BEER FOR £20 @ SAINSBURY
Thanks for the spot. I take it you`ve drunk all yours as you didn`t manage to turn caps lock off ;)
RE: Backing up dvds using shrink and decrypter.
You don`t even need to use Imgtools. There is an option in DVD Shrink to save the ouptut as either an ISO file or ISO file and then burn with DVD Decrypter, so you could just select the option to output an ISO file and then burn with DVD Decrypter at a later time.
RE: how to update firmware in DOS?
If you can`t get into DOS and want to be able to flash from within Windows you can use a utility called DVRFlash. I haven`t looked too hard, but found reference to a modified firmware that includes DVRFlash for the 106 here, but I`m sure if you look around that forum you will find a link to official firmware packaged with DVRFlash.

RE: Wireless connection with Telewest Broadband
So what about the manual(s) - according to Netgear website you should have an Install Assistant (not clear if that`s on paper or some software) and a Smart Setup Wizard, which should be some software. Have you looked at/run these as that should either tell you what settings to use based on some answers or make the changes for you.
Thinking about it my network type is Ad-hoc even though I have upto 3 wireless connections, so maybe you could try setting the Network type to Ad-hoc if you have already run the above Wizard etc. or run it now and it still doesn`t connect.

RE: Wireless connection with Telewest Broadband
Have you tried connecting to the router configuration via the wireless card? Does your router and/or wireless card have a manual and/or online manual on configuring it with Windows 98. I know this is a bit late as you have ordered XP Pro, but maybe still worth a shot.
Also how do you authenticate with Blueyonder via a usb connection? I ask because mine authenticates via MAC address of my network card and when I set up my router I had the option of registering the MAC address of the router with Telewest or cloning my NIC MAC address in the router. As you are no longer connecting via usb (or at least you aren`t when attempting wireless connection) I`m wondering if you have to do anything with the router and/or notify Telewest so that it will authenticate.
