My New 16x Speed Burner Makes No Difference????

Derekm323f (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 19th February 2005, 18:47

Hi All, I just installed a new NEC dvd burner as my old dvd rom drive died so now i have 2 burners! and when i burn a disc (8x) on the new burner it takes the same amount of time as my older 4x drive using 4x discs, anyone know why? The content of the dvd burned is the exact same so i would have imagined the new one with the faster burn discs would be alot quicker??? Anyone have any idea wat i might be doin wrong

Thanks

Are you sure the discs you are using support burn speeds of 8x?

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

When ripping DVDs a RW drive can only rip at 2x I think - so the ripping would take the same amount of time.

Have you changed Nero to burn at 16x? Maybe it`s still set to 4x?

How long are you talking about?
Should be around 8 mins for 8x.

It takes 13 minutes to burn a dvd-5 with the 8x discs, and the same on the other drive with the 4x ones, somethings not right, i have setting set to MAX writing so theres no difference in that.

Do you have DVD Decrypter? If so load it up and stick a blank in the drive - does 8x show up as an available burn speed?

Have you tried burning at 8x rather than max?

Is it the 3520? I`ve got one and it`s nowhere near as good as my Pioneer 108 :(
It is crap at reading discs and stops reading them and fails at a certain speed. Various forums are full of complaints. Pic below is just reading a disc that all my other drives read no problem..

Hopefully a firmware upgrade is coming soon. I`m having to use Nero Drive speed to limit its read speed. Anyway, that may all be an aside..

Are you burning from another disc or from hard disk? Have you set the jumper on the back of the drive to the correct option? Probably master.
