PCs & Mobiles Forum
Just interested in any views on this.
Mostly use a PC in a small home office/man cupboard.
It's getting old and needs replacing but I'm wondering whether to just get a new PC and monitor or get a laptop and run a largeish monitor from it.
Practical?
Or stick to a PC.

Contemplating something similar here. After two laptops, I“m leaning towards a desktop for ease of maintenance and upgradability. A laptop gets old, or starts flaking out, you pretty much have to throw it away.

I have both but vastly prefer the PC. I've had the lappy for a few years and despite have a complete reinstall it's still slow as hell. Plus the Z key has packed up so when i'm over with the boys I invariably take the wireless keyboard along.

Sounds as though the best option is a really small PC. I have an Intel NUC and it's great, loads of other similar options. Silent and takes up no space at all.

Seems to raise another question of normal size tower pc vs mini pc.
Just ease of access for upgrade or repair?

I'm not sure how many upgrade a PC nowadays to be honest. It depends on your use case but processors now can handle pretty much all day to days tasks and as long as you put 8GB or so in (or even 16 at today's prices) and an SSD (an absolute necessity now) you're really good to go. Bigger upgrades nowadays generally mean one thing leads to another - CPU pins mean new mobo mean new memory etc.
A decent (not partularly high) spec PC nowadays will last many, many years - as long as you're not looking to play the latest games with everything turned to 11...
Within reason, a small form factor PC can totally be upgraded.. and use a fraction of the power of their bigger brothers. Or sisters.

I got PC desktop at home for the big screen it has.
I can also connect a bedroom 40 inch tv to it for streaming tv shows.
Never liked laptops for the swiping mouse system.
The connections you just described works just as well with a laptop.

For those of us who can't afford a PC 'and' a laptop.
I have a Windows 10 PC which is aging, as is the monitor, and a very old tablet which is even more aged.
Would love to replace both and have a decent laptop so if you'll just post up tomorrows winning lottery numbers...
