E-Mail telling me not to buy BP or ESSO to fight petrol prices
Just got an email in this morning, telling me to pass this on to others thoughtout the country and hit petrol companies where it hurts, (my own thoughts is that its the rip-off taxation of fuel that is the trouble, but I will do as the email says and not buy BP or ESSO ).......
Subject: Petrol Prices - DO NOT BUY from ESSO OR BP PETROL STATIONS!!!
Hi All,
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it. We are hitting 123.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 2.00 a ltr.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol!

It`s had a very valid point, right up until that last line...
As it happens, I have no choice but to use Esso garages, as does the other truck in my yard, as well as several other haulage firms. Filling my car takes £45 a time. Filling my truck takes £200. The other truck takes £300, and we have to fill them up every 2 days on average. While we use Esso, a lot of the other branches use BP, and they have more trucks than us.
While I see the supposed point, it`s pointless. Truck drivers up and down the country aren`t going to stop buying diesel, and the sheer numbers of road kings means it just won`t work.
Anyway, it`s a chainmail

Stupid idea, and it is just a chain letter, delete it. All it will achieve is sending more junk mail to people. And it has been doing the rounds since 2008

True, but:

Financial Times, quoted in The Week
I`m not taking sides - just making a point.

That quote has been used with shocking regularity by the politicians this week. Up s*** creek without a paddle comes to mind!

Oil companies posted record profits last year, at least whatever % goes to the government in tax is supposed to be spent on us. Sure some of it is wasted, but it`s not going to make people rich unlike the oil barons.
If you want to be angry at the government, be angry at it for the Iraq war, which has unsettled the region even more and helped to drive up prices.
Be angry at ourselves for blindly whittling away our global oil reserves without a thought for the future, because having stuff now and cheap is more important than long term effects.
Get annoyed at the 3 or 4 so called scientists who keep denying global warming exists, based on shakey evidence at best, and downright lies at worst, whilst taking hand outs from big oil companies and manufacturers for the privilege, allowing the likes of G. W. Bush to ignore the whole problem and get away with it.
Shout at car companies for not managing to produce cars that are 100% eco friendly, because they`d rather sell us what we want rather than what we need. And then be angry at ourselves again because we choose what we want over what we need.
But above all, take a deep breath, because it is only going to get worse. Oil is a scarce resource that is running out, no matter what you do with the tax, long term it isn`t going to get any cheaper.

P.S. Dominic Diamond wrote about a chain letter in his column, and then asked everyone to pass it on? My god, what an idiot.
