Just seen this..
Rather good....
MASSIVE SPOILERS BELOW- DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE END!!!
SPOILER:
So, there's been lots of talk over the last few years about the next Bond could be a woman etc.  I have no issues whatseover with a new 00 Agent being a woman.  A nice new spinoff or whatever.  But the character of 'Bond, James Bond' is a man.  You can't re-write history or the novels or whatever.  The 007 in No Time To Die was great.  However, my point I suppose is, where does the series go from here?  They killed James Bond, not just a generic 00 Agent.  James Bond is dead.  WTF?  Quite enjoyed the film - and the whole Daniel Craig Bond story arc has been good - but I don't see why the arc can't just end and we move on to the next one - why does it end with him dying.  Hated that part - especially as he was a dad too.
James Bond is escapism.
James Bond needs to escape.

It was good fun but it wasn't a wow for me as some critics have described it.

God it was long. Slightly aggressive aircon in October made it a bit uncomfortable near the end which didn't help.

Agree with what sj says in the spoiler (don't read below if you haven't seen it)...

SPOILER:
I didn't know if it was really necessary to kill him off. But I think they wanted a really dramatic finish and a proper full stop to Craig's Bond.

I generally think if they want a female 007, or any other non-typical 'Bond' character, they should start a spinoff franchise. I don't think it's necessary to change every traditional 'male' character into a female just to prove some point about equality. Just do something original and start a new thing.

If you stayed until the end credits you will have noticed that they said "James Bond will return".

That's James Bond, not Jane Bond. It would seem they are continuing with the traditional Bond character...

yeah, it was okay, but aside from Bond's personal turmoil, there didn't really feel like there was a genuine global threat to be dealt with. All the peril came from an ineffectual Rami Malek being weird around Lea & her daughter. In fact the whole film seemed to centre around her rather than the usual 'big bad'. Which might work for Bourne, but not Bond.

Don't think I'd recommend.

I'd heard it was a bit 'meh', which I've felt for a long time with Bond.  I'll still watch them, more from habit I guess, but not a must watch...

SPOILER:
I genuinely don't remember why he wanted to wipe out a large part of the human population. Or where he got his vast wealth from. Or why they decided to call his character Lyutsifer like some joke villain in Austin Powers.

I think

SPOILER:
Madeline mentioned his family was in pharmaceuticals, and as he was the sole heir, he would have been the sole beneficiary. Probably not to the extent he could afford a whole island, but that's Bond villains all over.

Also

SPOILER:
He wanted to be able to hold the planet to ransom, not necessarily to wipe out humanity, just have the power to be able to.

Just saw this, bloody awful I thought, Craigs quitting at the right time, apart from pretty much every Roger Moore movie I would say this is far and away the worst I think, in large part due to Remi Malek who tbh I can't stand as an actor and this hasn't changed my mind, maybe just reinforced my view.

SPOILER:
Im hoping there's going to be a hard reset and we can go back in time to the 50s or 60s?? Possibly his 1st mission?

Couldn't disagree more. Not just a great Bond movie but a great movie full stop, and a fitting end for Craig's stint as the character.

The only low points were:

SPOILER:
Rami Malek's villain was weaksauce and sorely underdeveloped.
The whole DNA-targetting nanobot/virus thing has been done several times before, most notably in MGS.
My most hated trope - the noble sacrifice. Zzzzz.

Great score from Hans Zimmer* (*although a huge part of it was actually composed by Steve Mazzaro), although they did straight up copy and paste the Batman chase theme in one scene towards the end. It worked pretty well, though.

Also, the action sequences were brilliantly choreographed with one of the best car chases in Bond history (Matera). A massive improvement over the terrible Rome chase in Spectre. The forest scene was also brilliantly executed. The single-take stairwell shootout did have me looking for the edit points, though.

I would say it's tied with Casino Royale for Craig's best Bond, Skyfall next then QoS and the dreadful Spectre dead last.

A solid 4/5.

I watched this interesting video the other day about how films these days are written by kids with zero experience in life, which may quite succinctly sum up why a lot of modern TV and film doesn't hold a candle to previous generations:

Weren't the recent Star Trek movies written by forty somethings and directed by a forty something? JJ is 55 now?
