5.1 PC Speakers

I am looking for some advice on 5.1 PC Speakers.
Coupled with a decent soundcard will the sound quality be of comparable sound to a high range TV ?
I have 2 systems in mind.
The Creative 5300 and the Videologic ZXR-500.
I have always found PC speakers to be too light and flimsy to produce depth and good mid range clarity.
Should a PC system be able to compare with a TV or is it limited.
Thanks
Shane

RE: Videologic Digitheatre DTS or Yamaha HTiB

Are you serious ?
The Yamaha HTib45 is a much superior machine.
It produces 65w RMS per channel as opposed to the Digitheatre`s 30w RMS.
It looks much better has a built in radio and far more connections.
It has buckets of DSP modes and Dolby Digital Ex (Matrix) and DTS ES (Matrix)
It also has a Prologic 2 decoder built in.Very important.
Thats my twopence worth.

RE: cheap 5.1 digital

Creative DTT3500 might be worth a look.
It has a Dolby Digital ,DTS and Prologic Decoder with a 30w subwoofer ,21w Centre and 4 by 7w satellites.
www.ukpc.tv are selling it for 150 pounds which isnt bad.

RE: Typhoon Acoustic 5.1 from Lidl

I bought the same set ( I think? ) from Lidl in Ireland 2 weeks ago.Over here they cost 70 Euro.
I initially connected them up to a portable Sony CD player as a 2.1 system.
In the shop it was advertised as a 100w RMS total power system when it clearly states on the box that it is 45w RMS.
Overall on music they arent bad I think although the bass is viciously raw.
Treble is a bit too high but can be adjusted on a PC.
Voice clarity is a bit off but the sound is crystal clear.
In my front right speaker there is a very slight buzz.
Almost negligible but seems to be increasing.
I tried the acid test.
I connected the system up to my Sony Wega 32 Inch TV as a 2.1 system.
I altered the sound on the tv to try and remove effects, treble, spatial etc.
Then I compared `Spy Game` on DVD.
The tv smacked it hands down. Background sounds were much clearer on the tv ( although it is a fantastic tv ).
Overall I`d say though on music the speakers arent bad at all but for tv purposes they are poor.
I am thinking about bringing them back and getting either the Inspire 5.1 5300 for 100 euro or the Videologic zxr-500 for 130 Euro.
Should these type of sets be comparable to my tv quality or am I expecting too much ?

RE: Cheap Nintendo Game Cube! (after the Nintendo price redux)

Its 200 euro here in Ireland which is about 125 Sterling.
its nice that for once we are getting a good deal in this country .Most of the time we pay alot more than in the UK.

RE: Yes, the keyboard and mouse came with it

Hello Everyone,
Can you upgrade the amount of RAM in the system ?
Does the software come pre-installed or do you receive it packaged along with the PC ? If it is pre-installed ,is there a back up disk ?
I think they still have a few of these babies in my local here in the Republic of Ireland.

Grundig GDV HT-620 Home Theatre Kit

Does this system have Auxilliary audio inputs for connecting up tv broadcasts for `artificial` surround sound or is the Surround sound only available on DVD playback ?

RE: Recommended DVD and Amp combination or Cinema System

I`d get the Sony STR-475 Amp ( 5x80w) for 175 pounds or the Marantz 4200SR ( What HiFi Best Buy of the Year 2001 ) 5x70w for 225 pounds at Richer Sounds ( has Prologic 2!)
Match these with Sony Save 325 speakers for 130 pounds at Empire Direct.
Top notch system for 350 pounds.
This is what I am getting anyway.

RE: LG DA3520 Home Cinema

Check this link out.Type in LG as Manufacturer in the search.
It gives a rear picture of the system. What Video and tv gave it 9/10 although What Hifi only gave it 2/5.Said it cut too many corners to meet the low price.

RE: Anything better than the Toshiba 210 e under £200.00 ?

Nearly every magazine I have read gives the Toshiba SD210E the top spot for Budget DVD players.
It was `What Video and TV` Budget DVD player of the year 2001.
The new LG player ,think its the 4950 is top quality and looks fantastic.
It is 148 pounds at unbeatable.
Either of these 2 are the biz.

RE: Toshiba 210 e, whats next?

What would be better the HTK-215 or the HTK-475 ?

Practicalities Of Importing Home theatre system from the US

I have been looking at a number of US websites and I cannot get over the difference in prices for home theatre systems between Europe and the US.I have been primarily looking at Sony products.
In the U.K the best price I could find for the Sony DAVS500 DVD player is 456 pounds. In the US I found the same product retailing at $450 !
It is identical in Specification.
Would it be practical to bring these back from the US .I visit it now and again so I could pick one easily enough.
Does anyone know what difficulties I may have apart from the obvious ones which I think can easily be overcome.
UpConvert the voltage supply and use an NTSC compatible TV and use region 1 discs.
Apart from these I dont see any problems ?
I also found a great surround sound receiver for $300 .The Sony HTD DW830 with these specs
550 watts of total system power
Built-in Dolby Digital, dts and Dolby Pro Logic decoding
Digital Cinema Sound Studio A, B, C
Digital Cinema Sound Virtual 3D modes
11 digital soundfields with Soundfield Link
Four satellite speakers for Front and Surround with 2" x 3-1/2" full-range drivers
Center speaker with two 2" x 3-1/2" full range drivers
Active subwoofer with 50 watts x 1, into 8 ohms from 20 Hz - 200 Hz at 0.8% THD and 6-1/4" long-throw woofer
5.1-channel analog inputs
Tuner with 20 FM and 10 AM presets
32-bit full Digital Signal Processing
2 Optical, 1 coaxial digital input
A/V UniCommander remote control

The only modification I can see this item needing is a higher mains voltage.
Does anyone know if it is that simple ?
