Typhoon Acoustic 5.1 from Lidl

Bought this speaker pack from Lidl yesterday and although it was a mere £30 I`ve actually heard better sound quality through cheap headphones. I`m either taking them back or might connect them up to my PC, at least that way I`ll be able to alter the treble and bass. Think of somebody dragging their nails across a black-board and you`ll get an idea of the sound. Looks like it`ll be £XXX for a decent setup.

I bought the same set ( I think? ) from Lidl in Ireland 2 weeks ago.Over here they cost 70 Euro.
I initially connected them up to a portable Sony CD player as a 2.1 system.
In the shop it was advertised as a 100w RMS total power system when it clearly states on the box that it is 45w RMS.
Overall on music they arent bad I think although the bass is viciously raw.
Treble is a bit too high but can be adjusted on a PC.
Voice clarity is a bit off but the sound is crystal clear.
In my front right speaker there is a very slight buzz.
Almost negligible but seems to be increasing.
I tried the acid test.
I connected the system up to my Sony Wega 32 Inch TV as a 2.1 system.
I altered the sound on the tv to try and remove effects, treble, spatial etc.
Then I compared `Spy Game` on DVD.
The tv smacked it hands down. Background sounds were much clearer on the tv ( although it is a fantastic tv ).
Overall I`d say though on music the speakers arent bad at all but for tv purposes they are poor.
I am thinking about bringing them back and getting either the Inspire 5.1 5300 for 100 euro or the Videologic zxr-500 for 130 Euro.
Should these type of sets be comparable to my tv quality or am I expecting too much ?

I think that you are expecting too much. The Lidl advert I received had these speakers listed right next to a printer and some other computer hardware. This smacks of PC speakers as opposed to home cinema speakers to me. It`s true that in the case of some packages like the creative Insipre series and some of the Yamaha`s that there may be an argument for using then in the lounge. I`m not sure that you can honestly expect an unbranded £30 set to do the business though.
