Recommended DVD and Amp combination or Cinema System

NA ELLIOTT (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 8th March 2002, 07:29

Its a minefield out there and I need advice. I`m looking for a cinema setup that will produce both DTS and 5.1 through a speaker system. I assume a DVD player alone will not achieve this and would require a 5.1/DTS amp. Any recommendations (my budget is around £350).

As an alternative I`ve been looking at Cinema Systems such as the LG DA3520, anybody have any experience with this or other LG products.

Help !

Try this link http://www.richersounds.com

You wont get a top end system because of your budget, however you should get a decent deal

Happy hunting

I was once in the same situation as u and was given the advice to "if possible save more and more and get seperates, as the difference is quite substantial". I did save and ended up spending around £1500 which included the amp, dvd and speakers, No amp, and all I can say is it was worth it.

My mission M74`s give enopugh bass to live without an amp for timebeing and the sound from my speakers compared to the usual little egg speakers u get with all-in one packages is unbelievable.

Gop to a store like richersounds or superfi, get them to set up demos of a complete system and then one of a reasonable budget of seperates an I would b shocked if u still went with all-in-one......

Hope this helps.

I`d get the Sony STR-475 Amp ( 5x80w) for 175 pounds or the Marantz 4200SR ( What HiFi Best Buy of the Year 2001 ) 5x70w for 225 pounds at Richer Sounds ( has Prologic 2!)
Match these with Sony Save 325 speakers for 130 pounds at Empire Direct.
Top notch system for 350 pounds.
This is what I am getting anyway.
