RE: HMV sale - details clayts??

You can (still - 4 months later) get the Godfather Trilogy for £29.97 from Comet if anyone`s interested - don`t pay £40 at HMV...

Heat sounds good at £6.

RE: Dammit!!! i wanna a GameCube now!!!!!

Incidentally if I`ve broken any rules just delete my post mods - perhaps this should be in the bargains forum? I think the Dixon`s/ Curry`s codes are there anyway...

RE: Dammit!!! i wanna a GameCube now!!!!!

I might be too late to help you but if not the best deal I know of is...

Buy a Gamecube from Currys.co.uk with 2 games and an extra dodgy controller for £200 and use this discount `10offrep2` (10% off) to get it down to £180. (I bought ISS2 and Star Wars)

Then buy the `Super Smash Bros Melee/Dodgy controller` package (£45) from Dixons.co.uk, and buy another official pad as well for £25. Using the 3 following discount codes `10offrep2`, `cubeperiph2` and `cubejune2` you can get that lot for £55. (You can use all 3 codes at the same time - one is for 10% off, one for a fiver off and one for £7.50 off I think...)

So....

Adding it all together you will get a Cube, 4 control pads (2 official and 2 dodgy) and 3 games (one of which must SSBM which shouldn`t matter because it`s the best cube game anyway) for £230!

Everything should be in stock...I`ve ordered and received it all recently.
However it takes about a week for delivery..so no chance of getting it `now` as such.

Hope that helps and I`m not too late - cool username btw, quality band.

Anyone having problems with CD-WOW?!?

I have not been able to push through an order since I began trying at the start of the week, the site works fine until I click to confirm I want to buy the item and then it just times out!
Also I can`t register with them either - is the site having problems allowing users to upload data?

Do these guys want my custom!

RE: Reservoir Dogs covers

Anyone not got the crap edition doing the rounds at the moment and gonna pick up the new special edition Reservoir Dogs DVD?

Which are you going to plump for?

I reckon if I can`t get the limited edition (tight) Brown I`d take the (easy) Pink one me.
Pointless I know but a nice twist which could influence future DVD releases..

RE: I hate Big brother

Well I suppose someone`s got to stick up for it...

Funnily enough, like an earlier poster, I boycotted the first series and refused to watch a whole episode. However, half way through the 2nd series when the house numbers started to decline I began to watch the highlights and eventually got drawn into the catching as much of it as possible...
I suppose the if you`ve just tried to give BB a chance at the start of this series you will be disappointed, because previous posters are right - the housemates just put on a show at the beginning. They pretend they`re all best mates and that there`s no way of being anything other than friends with contestants. Yet after a couple of weeks you get the bitching and also `closer` relationships developing, and generally everyone starts to act like them true selves - and that`s where it gets intriguing.

Whilst I appreciate the concept might not appear to work, believe me if you catch enough of it you will start to turn. For better or worse...

RE: Man United Membership only £18 - what a bargain

Hands up I`m nowhere near that sort of commitment, sadly me dad was never a massive attender of games and moving down south 4 years ago never helped - excuses,excuses... Probably been to about 60 games since I started supporting United in 1989 (just made the cut!).

RE: Top 10 CDs £6.99 at Jungle

The Queen CD is not in the offer - I`ve just checked...
Gutted.

RE: Man United Membership only £18 - what a bargain

United were the most supported club even before 1992 when we started winning trophies - how many of your teams can pull in 45,000+ each game? We were pulling that figure in 1974 when we were in division 2, where were the gloryhunters then?
£18 isn`t bad for club membership when you consider that you can get access to all the home games at £22-24 a go - which is pretty much the PL standard charge - only you get to see the best players in the league.

RE: HMV new sale....

I tend to find that those who buy a higher percentage of disks off the high street aren`t budget-searching enthusiasts like us, and most of them only have region 2 players anyway...
We all know these high street retailers take the p*** for prices when compared to our Web based chums at Play/CD-WOW etc, but for those relucant to buy off the Web the HMV/Virgin 2 for 1`s or BOGOF`s provide a decent alternative. Also there`s the added bonus of getting to see whether the packaging is put together well, cue my gripes with CD-WOW over my T2 disk...

Console Wars - it`s healthy debate!

Okay, maybe not when Ironduke and Solid Snake post their blinkered thoughts/abuse, but generally it makes me laugh...
Incidentally, why does everyone trying to break up a debate always use the old "why don`t you buy all of the them" line?
Erm hello, not eveyone has 700 quid to splash out on hardware - and that`s before games.

Yeah yeah anyway long live Nintendo (and console debate) I say

RE: Gamecube prices

Best deal I`ve seen is from Virgin Megastores - Something like £190 for your Gamecube, a controller and 2 games, but they then give you £50 free vouchers to spend on accessories, so throw in another controller and memory card and you`re laughing

RE: spend £15, get £15 off......

Excellent!
However, can you use these 2 other deals if you took advantage of the other one?!?
Also I`m probably in the Littlewoods black books at the moment because I tried a couple of times to milk the spend £15, get £15 off... I was well and truly busted...

RE: spend £15, get £15 off......

Not true, I`ve just ordered a couple of things just now!

RE: Goodfellas £7.99 (or £2.99 with Safe Door Voucher)

Do you not mean CDWOW?
Note, this is a flipper DVD, it has a snapper case and I`ve heard a special edition is being planned..however, it is one the greats and £7.99 isn`t a bad price by any means

RE: 3 Gamecube Questions

e-bay?
Hmmm, isn`t that the auction site where people take your cash and run? !
Is there anyone in particular you got yours off? Perhaps they have more?
Cheers!

Speakers needed to go with Pioneer 444 player and Sony STR DE875 Amp - any ideas!?!

Title pretty much says it all, but I should outline that my budget is about £400-500. Also as far as design/looks go I`d prefer a couple of beech floorstanders at the front (to go with my pine furniture and avoid a sub) and a slim center speaker as I can`t put it on my TV (slopes too much), or in front or behind (space) so really I`d prefer something no taller than 6"
And that`s 6"s according to a ruler, not what you think......

RE: 3 Gamecube Questions

Thanks for the replies all.
I think the US machine is the way forward, I`m a bit worried about the customs charges when importing but no doubt I`ll make more than the money back when I start buying the games.
Have no experience in soldering, but no doubt I`ll be able to pull instructions off the Web somewhere, if not I`ll just try and find a specialist cowboy to do it for me.
Incidentally I`ve seen the `Spice` Gamecube mentioned, fock me it`s ugly, looks like a sandstone, reckon I`ll be opting for the black one although the Metallic sounds nice.

3 Gamecube Questions

Is it worth importing a machine and if not what are the advantages of waiting until the UK release in a couple of weeks? (I`m just thinking of saving money buying imported games?...)

Can the Gamecube be chipped (ala Dreamcast) to play copied games?

Finally, and less importantly, how many different colours is it available in?

RE: Whats your best game of all time?

How could we forget Sega Rally on the Saturn or the early ninties Lemmings titles? Shame on us!

RE: Anyone here going to buy a UK GameCube?

I am definitely getting one.

I couldn`t care less if the X-Box is 40 times as powerful or Nintendo have lost too much revenue to Sony to produce hundreds of top games, the fact is that you only ever come back to about 3 or 4 titles one year later (usually in my case a footy game, a rally game, a first person shooter and a fighting game) and there are probably Nintendo titles already released in the US already that will last me for 2 years on those counts.

Just like the Dreamcast I`ve no doubts the Gamecube will die on its arse over here in no time, but the fact that Nintendo have a history of producing great games leads me to believe there will be enough to keep me going until the X-Box 2, PS3 are released in 3 years time...

RE: Who has just bought the X Box??????????????????

The point about buying all 3 is an unrealistic prospect for 95% of gamers, that`s the best part of a grand before thinking about games, control pads and memory cards.

Consequently most of us have to think about one and one only, and quite simply for me there is only one choice - the Nintendo Gamecube.

Why anyone would argue over console power is beyond me, I`d still play Streetfighter 2 over Grand Turiso 3 even today - it`s all about the gameplay. Power is nothing without control.

RE: Whats your best game of all time?

Immediate stand out titles are as follows (okay I`m a Sega and Nintendo fan): -

The Dizzy series
Sensible soccer
Original Fifa on the PC (complete with diagonal pitch!)
3 Mario platformers
Whole Sonic series
Wario Land
Streets of Rage
Killer Instinct
Lemmings
Doom
Quake
Virtual Cop
Mario 64
Goldeneye
ISS 64 and 98
Virtual Tennis 2

Anyway, the best game ever is unquestionably Street Fighter 2.

RE: Has Alan Partridge been re-released on DVD yet?!?!

Well I found this link http://www.alan-partridge.co.uk/index2.htm which was released when they were first being recalled but I can`t find anything since. I assume the 20 minutes on Video and DVD are the same (They`re mostly one liners and outakes - including a great series of cuts on the Chocolate scene).
OOoooooooooo Julie, you`re so diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirty!!!

RE: Godfather 5 disk box set still £29.97 at Comet

Agree totally with Roger James, a real steal this one, I bought 3 copies from my local Comet last night - all clearly labelled at £29.97.
PS - does anyone know why 2 of the boxsets don`t have the 18/15 certificates on the disk covers inside and why the other one does? I noticed that they`re about 50/50, some with and some without the age certificates.
Not that it matters, just curious.

RE: Has Alan Partridge been re-released on DVD yet?!?!

Yes but they are both adverts for the original version which haven`t been taken off the site. You`ll notice the release date is T.B.A - to be announced - meaning they`re probably waiting for the re-release, but I can`t find any information on the re-release.......

Has Alan Partridge been re-released on DVD yet?!?!

I still can`t seem to find it anywhere.
Also, is it true they may cut the bonus 20 minutes where there was copyright issues on the original release?

`Bout time this graced my collection. And I ain`t payin £30-50 on e-bay...

RE: Looking to buy DVD`s from CDWOW, are they any good?

I ordered T2 and Silence of the Lambs from them and they arrived in 5 days, the only problem being that the T2 box had a couple of scratches. All their DVD`s are region 1 I believe.
Also it`s worth registering with `safedoor` who will give you a fiver off your first purchase over £15, so basically you`ll get the Simpsons and AI for £25 instead of £30.

Out of interest I`ve ordered about 15 CD`s off them in the past, and only had problems with one, so I say they`re pretty good.

RE: can anyone recommend any online retailers?!

I`ve been checking a few recently and I can`t comment on service, but try these for price

www.avland.co.uk
www.richersounds.co.uk
www.hifibitz.co.uk
www.empiredirect.co.uk
www.unbeatable.co.uk
www.webelectricals.co.uk
www.mailuk.com

Also

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/

for a list of retailers

I`ve just ordered from mailuk and empiredirect, ask me on Monday and I`ll tell you if they keep their delivery times...

RE: £9.99 TITLES STILL AVAILABLE AT PC WORLD ONLINE

Rush Hour 2 - It`s alright, a 7 out of 10 slapstick comedy I reckon.

That Website you`ve posted comes up with exactly the same error message as I mentioned before - is anyone else having this problem?!?
