Anyone here going to buy a UK GameCube?

Anil Khedun (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 31st March 2002, 10:50

Well? I`m quite looking forward to it being released though I probably won`t buy one until Christmas, if I can hold myself back that is.

What`s your view on GC?

For around £160 notes (I think - correct me if i`m wrong), I don`t think I`ll be able to resist it at some point - purely for Mario as Mario 64 rocked!!!

I`m not sure about waiting for it - will the price drop by that much or will Nintendo keep it at about the same price?? Only ask because I bought the PS2 for around £300 about three weeks before Sony announced the £70 price drop.

I don`t really expect the price to drop, but I know if I bought a GC on day one, I`d never get anything else done! The great games....I can easily be distracted by it all, and right now the last thing I need is distractions.

I remember when I first bought my SNES, every morning I`d be playing Zelda or something before I left for work, then I`d play in the evenings and neglected other things.

So for me, I can wait until the end of the year. Though I know I`ll be round friends houses playing it... :-)

The more I think about it, the more i`m tempted by it.
Like you say though - the only danger is never getting anything done.
I can see myself after a few weeks stuck to the sofa surrounded by pizza boxes and old take-out curries!!

Is it really going to be £160???? Thats going to be impossible to resist!!! Ive only got a PS2 (£200). Would never pay more than £200 for a console, thats why Im not bothering with the X-Box until the price comes down.....

I want a Gamecube just for Resident Evil, as Ive never really been a Nintendo fan.....

I will probably buy a GameCube at some point (the price is very tempting), but I`m not sure if I`ll get a UK one or an import.

It all depends on how easy it is to play imports on the UK console. Knowing what Nintendo are like, I don`t want to be stuck with just Euro games.

Nintendo make great games, I can see, but I don`t really like them myself. But that Star Wars game looks execellent and could tempt me!

I am definitely getting one.

I couldn`t care less if the X-Box is 40 times as powerful or Nintendo have lost too much revenue to Sony to produce hundreds of top games, the fact is that you only ever come back to about 3 or 4 titles one year later (usually in my case a footy game, a rally game, a first person shooter and a fighting game) and there are probably Nintendo titles already released in the US already that will last me for 2 years on those counts.

Just like the Dreamcast I`ve no doubts the Gamecube will die on its arse over here in no time, but the fact that Nintendo have a history of producing great games leads me to believe there will be enough to keep me going until the X-Box 2, PS3 are released in 3 years time...
