RE: black hawk down vs saving private ryan

Just to change subject ever so slightly, whoever said that the acting in BHD was good was clearly watching a different film to me. For two reasons...one that plank who used to be in Coronation Street and nicked off with Kev`s wife and his American accent located somewhere near Wolverhampton. And culprit number 2, Ewan McGregor and the accent that veered from the most absurd New Yawk `Hey Paulie, fetch me a cup of cawfee!" leanings to broad Scots when he was called on to display emotion...eg "Hoots mon, I`ve been shot...och!"

RE: black hawk down vs saving private ryan

Black Hawk Down? Save yer money stay at home and watch CNN.

RE: Apocalypse Now: Redux

I posted a thread about this a while back....I`m just concerned if stump up the cash for Redux that a year down the line they will release an Apocalypse Now: Redux Special Edition and then Apocalypse Now Redux : No Honest Guv This Really Is The Last Edition.

I hope Coppola isn`t gonna start treating his film like George Lucas`s yearly fleecing of the kids by releasing Star Wars on video with Extra bells and whistles on.

RE: Advert Music!

If its the one2one ad with Gary Oldman then that was a tune called `Lovely Head` by Goldfrapp

If its the one with babies crawling round and the music has a weird whistle in then thats `Turtle` by Pilote

No idea about As If.

Extras on Region 3?

Does anyone know of a website which tells you what extras / features are on a Region 3 disc? The retailers (DDDHouse and Coolashop) seem reluctant to mention them.

Is Coolashop....ahem..cool?

Just seen a couple of bargains on this website.

Memento for £8 and Requiem for a Dream for £6

so a couple of points...
1) Are these guys ok?

2) Does anyone know how to find out what the extras are (if there are any) on Region 3 discs? Because this site doesn`t give any details for the extras.

RE: Usual Suspects Special Edition

I seen it announced with Dolby 2.0 as well which frankly is a bit of a sh*tter (lets hope johnmorris is right). And they`ve got it for the bargain price of £13 at DVD Import. Nice!

A.I. pre-order for £11.60 at DVD Import!

Not out for a few months yet, but still quite a good price, and it looks jam packed with extras too, hopefully theres an option to remove the awful ending!

RE: Beverly Hills Cop Finally

This is music to my ears! Am I the only person who thinks that part 2 is better than 1? There is some comedy gold dust in part two! Johnny Wishbone the psychic extrordinairre from the Isle of Croy not to mention the $20 for Monique and Munique`s trainers! Fantastic!

RE: Beastie Boys Anthology - Problem on Lecson 900???

Got the firmware update last night, asked them how many updates there had been. They said just the one....but I was dealing with the gormless expressionless faces that work in Debenhams, so one may be in existence. Loaded the upgrade.....and there is still a problem with the discs! Aaaargh! Gonna have to try it on a mates DVD player.

RE: Lecson 900 Firmware Update

Cheers Lads! I`ll pop in this weekend, I take it you need a proof of purchase?.....Its gonna take me a day to find that! But I`ll ask about an Upgrade 2 being available for you Andy when I go.

RE: Lecson 900 Firmware Update

I`ve got quite a big collection and never had a problem with any discs but then I got the Beastie Boys Anthology 2 Disc set, Region 0, and I have problems accessing some of the bonus features...i thought it might be a problem with the discs itself (I started a thread in the Software forum originally), but it occurs on Discs 1 and 2 in exactly the same area of the menus.

Somebody tipped me off that firmware updates were available from Debenhams, free of charge, these are aimed at getting rid of hassles with problem discs, but I don`t know I don`t know whether they will also disable the player from being multi-region aswell? Has any one used the firmware update?

Lecson 900 Firmware Update

This might be in the wrong forum as its a bit hardware and a bit software. I have recently encountered my first `problem` disc and was advised to pick up a copy of the latest firmware software update for my Lecson 900. However, I`m a bit worried that this might stop my player from being multi-region if I use it? Has anyone used it? Is this the case?

RE: Beastie Boys Anthology - Problem on Lecson 900???

Thanks Andy. I`ll give it a shot. I`ve got quite a few discs but this is the first one I`ve had probs with. I`ve never used any of the software updates, so maybe, just maybe!

Beastie Boys Anthology - Problem on Lecson 900???

Got the Beastie Boys Disc on Saturday excellent disc but I can`t access the remixes or different camera angles for the videos. Has anyone experienced these problems. I want to see Nathaniel Hornblower`s epic masterpiece of the Robot Vs Octopus Monster!!!

RE: playitmovies.com

Personally, I think this company is probably bogus given that half of these films aren`t even out yet (Back to the Future trilogy, Indiana Jones trilogy and the original Star Wars trilogy)

RE: Bought any Movies you feel were harshly underrated at the flics?

I thought Rushmore was brilliant starring the excellent Bill Murray...critically well recieved but didn`t exactly blaze a trail at the box office. Think of it as a mildly more intelligent Ferris Bueller, but still funny.

Also I really enjoyed Sexy Beast...fantastic film but suffered because of the tidal wave of crap gangster flicks spewing out of the UK.

Apocalypse Now / Or Not Now?

The upshot of this thread is should I or should I not buy the Apocalypse Now Redux DVD. Usually I would have no probs in making this decision, it would be an outright `YES` as it is one of the best films I`ve ever seen.

However, I already own it on DVD when it came out less than a year ago. Yes, thats right, a new version surfaces with added bells and whistles on (49 mins extra footage to be precise) Now normally I would be thrilled with this but I can`t help thinkin that another year down the line..ANOTHER version will come out and then ANOTHER.....and I`ll just be parting with my money to MR Coppola make more stunning films these days like er, Jack!

The reason I say this is because the new Redux version has literally NO features. So a year down the line can we expect Apocalypse Now Redux: Platinum Edition.....theres endless amounts of additional material which could be lobbed in such as a commentary (Mr Coppola it would seem likes doing these ...eg. The Conversation, Godfather Trilogy, even the Kurtz Compound ending on my previous version) and also there is his wife`s documentary `Hearts Of Darkness` which could be added.

POTENTIAL SPOILER

Topping this off is the revelation, which I read in Uncut magazine, that a 4 hour print of the film exists and has been unearthed. This version of the film shows the killing of Dennis Hopper`s character and also Martin Sheen slaying children of the tribe on the way to hacking Brando amongst other scenes. Which would make a mad film even madder but probably provide a more sensible ending. My point being will this too see the light of day on DVD as "Apocalypse Now Redux : Platinum Edition....no really it is, honest guv`nor!"

So come on Coppola you are acting like your good buddy Mr Lucas with his yearly fleecing of punters with the Star Wars Trilogy on VHS. Give us the definitive version, or at least a promise that there will be no further additions!

RE: Virgin Megastore 2 for £22

Just been on the site and here are a selection of titles they say there are more in store so here`s hopin. Whats Way of The Gun like??
Some of our favourites:

AMERICAN BEAUTY, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, CHARLIES ANGELS, GALAXY QUEST, HIGH FIDELITY, HOLLOW MAN, KEEPING THE FAITH, NURSE BETTY, PATRIOT, PREDATOR, SEXY BEAST
SIXTH SENSE, TOTAL RECALL, VIRGIN SUICIDES, WAY OF THE GUN

I`d appreciate it if anyone could provide more titles as there`s only Sexy Beast I`d like out of that little lot!

Virgin Megastore 2 for £22

I`ve heard they have a sale on as stated in the title. Not too sure of what titles they`ve got apart from the rather excellent Sexy Beast......just wondering if anybody had been recently and can shed some light on the other titles???

RE: WITHNAIL AND I...........ANY GOOD OR PURE HYPE?

If you don`t think you`ll enjoy the film.....buy it anyway because it is the backdrop for a really good drinking game. Choose either E. Grant or McGann and match their drinking performance drink for drink, shot for shot. Here`s a tip avoid choosing Withnail (Grant) unless you enjoy drinking lighter fluid.

RE: ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA WHERE??

Just had a look at the site in Brazil and it looks fairly kosher, as for gettin past the language its simply a case of being fluent in Channel 9 speak from the Fast Show. I`d be willing to buy a copy so long as I knew what the quality of picture was like........i remember having a copy on video which was, in a word, `rough`!

RE: Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE) has recently been added

I have a multi-region player and recently bought The Shining Region 1 and it plays perfectly...no probs! Also for Kubrick fans, or fans of the The Shining, buy the Region 1 version of the film...because it includes approx 30 mins of footage not included in the UK release.

PS: Does anybody know what RCE does in terms of affecting performance?? Is it like Macrovision where the picture is distorted?

RE: ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA WHERE??

Any chance of it appearing on Region`s 1, 2 or 4???

RE: Help?? Pulp Fiction? Usual Suspects? Fargo? Mean Streets? Raising Arizona?

Cheers guys....looks like I`ll save my pennies for next year then.

Help?? Pulp Fiction? Usual Suspects? Fargo? Mean Streets? Raising Arizona?

Help needed...I`m in the process of transferring my video collection to DVD and I just need 6 or 7 more titles until I complete my list.
So I need help to determine which is the best region (in terms of sound, extras, picture quality) or whether you know if it would be worth hanging fire on a purchase because a superior version is in the pipeline (i know this frustration, particularly with a new version of Apocalypse Now coming out within a year of the last one)

The wanted list includes

Pulp Fiction (I hear the R4 version is the best)
Blade Runner
Mean Streets
Usual Suspects (Again Region 4 but I believe its only Dolby 2.0)

I`m also a big Coen Brothers fan

I gather they are, like Scorsese, not the type of people to do audio commentary, but are there any plans for any of their releases to get the full DVD treatment rather than a couple of trailers??

Here`s hopin somebody knows?

Cheers

Godfather Trilogy Region 2??

I`ve been hunting round various sites and the cheapest I can find the 5 disc set of the Godfather (Region 2) is £47.99 at play247....does anybody know of anywhere cheaper?

Also is there any difference, in terms of what extras you get, between the Godfather Trilogy region 1 and 2???
