by Warner and Columbia to certain Region 1 DVD’s. RCE will prevent the DVD from playing on some “Multi-Region” DVD players. This is the warning I got when I was going to purchase "A Knights Tale". Does anybody know if it will work on a Wharfedale M5

Its also the case with "The Shining" R1 dvd. I wonder if it will play on a Pioneer 525 mulit-region player? Would appreciate if someone can help me with this before I place an order for the disc.

"recently" is not quite accurate - RCE has been with us for some time. The bottom line is that if you can set the region manually on your player you are guaranteed to be safe. Other region hacks either work or don`t - there are plenty of people`s responses listed on the forums here.

I have a multi-region player and recently bought The Shining Region 1 and it plays perfectly...no probs! Also for Kubrick fans, or fans of the The Shining, buy the Region 1 version of the film...because it includes approx 30 mins of footage not included in the UK release.

PS: Does anybody know what RCE does in terms of affecting performance?? Is it like Macrovision where the picture is distorted?

No, not at all. It`s simply a piece of code (read: software program) on the disc, which is designed to fool auto-switching mods and region-free players; it`s run when the disc is first inserted. It has no effect on the video output at all.
