Bought any Movies you feel were harshly underrated at the flics?

Personally I`ve bought many films that have had a very poor commercial success that Ive thought of as brilliant. Does anyone else have any examples?

Mine are;

"The Replacements" - Brilliant sports comedy, An American Football team goes on strike to be replaced with some very funny replacement players.Keanu Reeves was paid $12000000 to make this and it`s only been released as straight to Vid over here. I`ve lent the disc to mates, and 11 of them have bought it after watching.

"3000 Miles To Graceland"- Not the most original action movie ever made, but it`s becoming a difficult genre to please audiences in and this was an entertaining film. Well worth buying for the opening scene shootout if you`ve got a good audio setup.

"Mystery Alaska"- Another good sports movie, this time Ice Hockey. Wrtten by Jay Roach (Austin Powers), and starring Russel Crowe. I Don`t think it was even released in the U.K.

Anyway, work to do! Leave your lists of underrated movies as I`d trust most of the members here on whether a film is good or not rather than some useless git in the media. (I mean you Woss)

Mallrats bombed at the box office but it is one of my favourite films of all time. I have the DVD naturally and have seen it loadsa times. Drive also. Was one of the most superb action movies that was made before the matrix but was largely unheard of before the fantastic dvd release.

I`m not 100% sure but i think that Mystery Alaska was on Sky moviemax a couple of weeks ago.

If its that one then its an ice hockey film which stars Russell Crowe, I think he returns to his hometown to coach or play against a big team.

I did`nt see it but i heard its good.

Stir of echos staring Kevin Bacon, had a poor commercial run at the cinema, came out about the same time as sixth sence, personal i think it`s better.

Hey, Everyone`s entitled to their opinion Fozzy_Bear.

Have to agree with Mallrats, I think all of Kevin Smiths movies are excellent, even though most of the general viewing public have probably never heard of them.

I forgot to add "Empire Records" to the list, that`s one of my favourite films, however I only own a VHS copy.

The Game and Thirteenth Floor both under-performed at the cinema, but I loved both of them on DVD.

They`re both the same kind of film aswell, where the audience is taken on a kind of paranoia-fuelled journey and you never know what to believe. I much prefer these types of intriguing/gripping stories to the usual (unoriginal) cash-cows we frequently get subjected to.

American History X, Pleasantville and Keeping the Faith didn`t do well at the box office, but I love em!

I bought Pleasantville when New Line first released it 2 years ago but only watched it last month. Why did I wait so long? It may be kitsch but I liked it.

Films that weren`t so well liked at the movies that I enjoyed were:

Dark City
Alien 3 and Resurrection
Lost In Space
Friday
Random Hearts
