I know I`m in the minority but I think it`s absolute garbage.

Why people find it funny has always escaped me.

Of course, you`ll get loads of replies to the contrary!!!!

British film-making at it`s best, in my opinion.

Depends what you like. Pigeonholing very loosely (as us humans tend to do) if you`re a Sky Moviemaxx/Premier viewer it won`t be your cuppa tea. If on the other hand you adore every film ever shown on Film Four, it`ll be right up your street.

I s`pose it could be a load of old twaddle if one analysed it, but I just love it for what it is - middle-class twerps being very silly !!!

Big thumbs up from the council estate kid here ;-)

It`s a top film - a classic. It`s probably double good if you are drunk. You will grow to love the classic one liners and find yourself endlessly quoting them. `I demaaaand some booze`. `Mcf***`. The Camberwell Carrot`. Great stuff. I could tell you all the best bits, but you`ve just got to watch it. Ha! I`m just laughing now. Just go get it in a couple of weeks. Oh and while you`re at it buy `The peculiar memoirs of Thomas Penman` - written by Bruce Robinson who wrote Withnail. Also class.

If you don`t think you`ll enjoy the film.....buy it anyway because it is the backdrop for a really good drinking game. Choose either E. Grant or McGann and match their drinking performance drink for drink, shot for shot. Here`s a tip avoid choosing Withnail (Grant) unless you enjoy drinking lighter fluid.

Scrubbers!!!!

Sorry to rain on peoples` parade but if a line like "I demaaand some booze" is the best the film can offer what can one say....

A big thumbs down from another council estate kid.

Stormin` Norman, that`s like saying `Gone With the Wind` is rubbish because people going around quoting the `Frankly my dear...` line. If you know the film it can be interpreted through a single line, but to the uninitiated it sounds like dross. `I demaaaand some booze` - so what? `I demaaand some booze` everytime I go to the pub. But when Richard E. Grant demaaaands his booze it is all about context, delivery, atmosphere. Anyway what`s that got to do with DVD`s?!

We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!

hmmm...i`m a little late but i`ll just have to add (to Norman Stone)

"Ponce!.....perfumed Ponce!"

"You want working on boy"

THE best film of all time.....if ever you were a student with a fondness for ilicit substances..this film will be right up your alley...if not...it may pass you by as being ubsurd....however.....you can`t fault Richard E Grants performance

I already have the Criterion edition..and will be buying the region 2 version for Paul McGann`s and Ralph Brown`s commentry..

oh..and i have it on video as well.....and the screenplay....oh and i wrote a thesis on it for university...

so the answer is yes....it is ANY GOOD
