RE: FAO - Westy and all Yamaha VS10 owners..(a query)

Agree with the above, the sub (esp on night mode :-) !! ) will fill any room.

I`ve also used it to fill a conference room for 30 as part of an AV presentation system. Only issue to watch on high volume is the fader mix applied to the rears... they are the smallest in the set up but cope very well with all the usual noises and music assigned by 5.1 unless you go mad and pump everything through them

Most lounges / apartments will be amply filled by volume and your neighbours complaining!

The experts will tell you correctly positioning the speakers will make a difference over volume to the sound quality as well!

Enjoy

"about last night" - Video HELP Please!

Have been asked to find a copy of the video of the 1986 file "about last night" for one of the the missus`s friends.

HMV/Amazon and BlackStar have all failed me.

Any ideas out there as to where I might get hold of one?

Cheers

RE: Just got my sky+ installed!

This looks interesting!!?
(from a sad NTL analogue "digital is coming soon, just hang on in there" punter)

Not heard much about this, but one quick question, why the DD optical out?

ignore my ignorance, but are Sky able or about to start transmitting in DD? (please say yes!!!!!) :-)

RE: Toshiba 210e debate

I looked at the Thomson DVD players, a Sony thingy and the Tosh.

Got the Tosh

Mine is multi region, better menu, better colours (though the Sony did react quicker to start up and scene switching) than the other two and with the deal leconepts were running, the competition didn`t get close.

A buff with an expensive set up (seperates, 100hz etc) had to grudgingly admit it is a very good player... as Andy says, why pay more when you can put the extra money to other kit (and better cables, will make a difference over an expensive machine with cheaper leads!)

RE: Looking for a cheap 32

Looks like I got the odd one in the batch as my Thomson 32 is excellent. paid £540 for it 3 months ago, so it wasn`t the cheapest, but had the virtual dolby (pre VS10 purchase!)

Beat the pants off the Phillips 28 I looked at for the same price.

Good inputs as well, but no one else seems to have one from the postings on the forum over the last few months.

Friend got a `good` Goodmans 32 a few months as an interim before he gets a big 100hz when a policy comes out. He`s not keen on the colours despite playing with the settings when it receives from SCART, so may need to watch that when `auditioning` sets

RE: noisy drive on tosh 210e

Its a tight fit, but so are many things in life

(yes I meant CDR :-) )

No problems with standard Film DVDs, only audio CDRs,

RE: noisy drive on tosh 210e

I had this.

I have managed to tie it down to a particular type of blank tape I was using.

Binned them and using another brand (Memorex were the culprits)

You`ve bound to have tried that, but just in case.

Othewise I`m going to be sod all help

Good luck

RE: Toshiba Sd210 Multi Region Any Good?????

As a novice, the 210 was very easy to set up. Only thing I found out not to do was use the onboard `spatilizer` thingy with the DD amp as it buggered up the placement of the sound

Great picture and sound though

Also, bloody useful it being a little shallower than other players as in my set up, space for cables is tight and it allows some space for scarts to be out of the way

practical or what!

RE: Contridicting reviews of the Yamaha510 ?

Can`t comment on the Yam, but ref retailers, I recently got my multi region 210E from leconcepts.co.uk and am mightily impressed

RE: Cheap surround sound?

Was picking up some Scarts from Maplins when I saw this deal, or what I think you might be on about.

Its a 6 speaker set up and a DD card for the PC (Southampton retailing it at what I thought was £99, but my bank account is beyond empty)

Speakers looked a bit tacky but no doubt, for PC games they would suffice, and if you`ve a DVD drive in the PC with a decent screen, well.......

RE: YAM VS10 - good for me ?

VS10 is good, very good. Friend just spent £900 on a Sony set up but the sub and rear balance swamps sounds that mine maintains.

It manages the 5.1 for you so you don`t need any other decoder on the DVD etc

Also with all the inputs on the amp, I also have both the TV and VCR running through it for a `surround sound`, rather than 5.1, but the DVD running Dolby Dig produces top effects.

Have fun

RE: Videologic, Sony or Yamaha for £350? I dunno which is the best!

Recommend the VS10

I got it from leconcepts (compared it to Sony, but the richness of sound is just better)

They don`t have many left currently

But John Lewis don`t have Silver in stock across southcoast (as of last week) anyway

Mind you leconcepts was ordered 3.30pm and delivered 10.30am next day, which I thought was good, so why go to JL?

RE: Yamaha DD5.1 on a Budget?!

All Fine

Set up was a doddle using the optical cable I had with the kit supplied

First Disc played on Saturday night was Toy Story 2 (sad I know) and everything was fine

VS10 was straightforward. I haven`t had time to play with all the settings yet, but it played okay straight from the box. Just read the manuals today and there seem to be an array of options, which means it can only get better. Good rich sound from the sub, not overbearing and the rears worked well (need to position them right I am told)

Would recommend it thoroughly

Will let you know how the options help

Speaker Stands

Just got a VS10 system with the surround package.

Mention is made of "optional SPS-AV1" stands for rear speakers. I know I don`t really need them, but would suit the room etc

Does anybody know where I can get hold of these (google etc not bringing anything up), or what other stands are around for relatively small rear speakers.

Advice appreciated

RE: Yamaha DD5.1 on a Budget?!

Cheers for the advice.

That clears that up

I`ve opted for a VS10 and Tosh 210e from leconcepts.com and they include a gold scart and opto lead. All for £480, (but they`ve only 7 left, be warned)

Slippery Slope now!

VS10, Toshiba SD210e and cables for £480

Looking to enter the fun and games by linking up the above to my Thomson 32 w/s tv

leconcepts.com are offering the above two bits of kit with gold scart and optical cable for £480 all in.

Much read about the VS10 making it a good purchase, but not much on the Tosh.

The price, all in looks good.

Can any of you worldly wise out there advise if this is a reasonable buy?

Any compatibilty issues I might face?

Also, where do I get speaker stands for the rear?

Cheers

RE: Yamaha DD5.1 on a Budget?!

Looks a bit of a bargain!

I take it that it doesn`t have a 5.1 decoder built in (unlike the VS10) The Thomson DVD I am looking to also buy, doesn`t have a decoder, so I will have to get the VS10 as this has a decoder in it

(I am still trying to understand the 5.1 decoder issue, so am I right in having get an amp with a decorder built in?)

RE: help......mi tellys blown up!!!

RE: yamaha vs10 cinemastation info required

First Timer joining the club
Was looking at Sony 215 but arguements are swaying me to the Yamaha VS10. Off down to John Lewis this weekend for a look with a printout.
(LECONCEPTS.com is the best I have at £299 in stock in silver)
Anyone better this?
One question.. speaker stand for the rear two. Wha tis my best option including price?
Any and all suggestions appreciated
Also, being matched against (in my view a good) Thomson 32VK25U w/s TV
Any issues anyone has come up against?
