Looking for a cheap 32"er

RichardH (Elite) posted this on Monday, 3rd September 2001, 09:04

I`ve been looking for a 32" widescreen for a while, but the budget it tight. Had high hopes of Costco, but no bargains there. Seen the Philips 32PW6006 on Unbeatable for £474 (without cabinet).
They also have a Thompson 32WR22U for similar money.
I`m waiting to get a Makro card, as I have seen postings mentioning the Bush 32" for £199. Anyone had experience of any of these TVs, or others at up to £500? Is it worth the extra to go up from the Bush (if it`s available at that price anyway...)

Cheers Shnozz - got all excited that there had been 3 replies. Thanks for the headsup on the Macro price - seemed too good to be true.

Westy reviewed the Bush, but didn`t mention what picture ratio options you get - any info Westy? Does it auto detect 4:3 / 16:9 or is it a remote button press job?

Anyone any experience/knowledge of that Philips? They seem to be getting good reviews at the moment, but not sure about that model.

Yeah, there are lots of good buys around, but often slightly odd models - never sure what the crack is.... hey ho, keep searching.

Looks like I got the odd one in the batch as my Thomson 32 is excellent. paid £540 for it 3 months ago, so it wasn`t the cheapest, but had the virtual dolby (pre VS10 purchase!)

Beat the pants off the Phillips 28 I looked at for the same price.

Good inputs as well, but no one else seems to have one from the postings on the forum over the last few months.

Friend got a `good` Goodmans 32 a few months as an interim before he gets a big 100hz when a policy comes out. He`s not keen on the colours despite playing with the settings when it receives from SCART, so may need to watch that when `auditioning` sets

Ive recently bought my second 32" pw9631 from a company called boxclever. It is ex renatl but has 1 year warranty which can be extended to 3 year, it is 100Hz, plays ntsc, has speaker in cabinet and surround, which are not too bad, has picture in picture function and loads more. Its the second as I have bought one for each house- - - definitely bargain.

If u want something raelly flash but at good price I saw the Sony Wega 32" in Makro for £800 which to me is the best tv by far, just a case of how much wonga ur willing to spend........

They dont have the 32" on the website and didnt when I bought mine- Just ring your local boxclever and ask them if they can get any - -- mine came free shipping from Manchester with speakers, stand and all the same day. For an extrra 70 you get 4" more and a longer warranty..............hope this helps.
