Listened to that walking the dog and I have not forgiven them for getting me to listen to that tw*t. I thought it was going to be a short clip.

Infantino accuses the west of being hypocrites after telling them to stop going on about politics and concentrate on the sport. Then gives a fifty five minute monologue on politics.

so can we talk about the footie now??

I think Brazil are worthy favourites but like many would love Argentina to win for Messi , outsiders if they can get by a very tough group Japan, maybe its actually Belgiums time??

Think that genuinely needs a separate thread. This is so far removed from being about sport that the actual competative event is a completely different.. event

It's weird. I've commented on a few facebook & Instagram posts about how really s***ty this whole situation is, and I've been personally inundated with responses & message requests  from people with suspiciously Arabic-sounding names, and clearly fake accounts using the almost identical broken English, about the hypocrisy of the west (as mentioned earlier, alomst word-for-word in places) and how glorious the world cup will be, and how I shouldn't criticise Qatar becaise I don't know anything about it because I don't live there

Ah, the freedom that comes from not living in a North-Korean-esque civilisation and being able to actually look into things yourself without using a heavily-edited version of 'the internet'.

Just wait until the indescribably dodgy refereeing decisions start happening. Qatar in the final? Who'd a thunk it?

couldn't agree less that it should have separate thread, Qatar is as much about corruption than football, and from the 1st game, well apart from VAR sticking its snout in again, I feel for Valencia as he should have started the tourney with a hat trick , really enjoyed the match, Ecuador will cause teams trouble with their very direct style and Qatar continued to try to play their game

just heard on news, the armbands thing is kicking off!

Quote:

World Cup 2022: England, Wales & other European nations in talks over OneLove armbands
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63699477
Quote:

The captains of nine nations, including England's Harry Kane and Gareth Bale of Wales, had planned to wear the armband to promote diversity and inclusion.

But they have been warned by Fifa officials that wearing the armband would be a breach of its rules and risk a sporting sanction for captains, such as a booking.
Quote:
With England due to kick off their World Cup campaign against Iran at 13:00 GMT on Monday, it remains unclear whether the Football Association (FA) will drop its plans for Kane to wear the armband.

Chief executive Mark Bullingham has told the BBC that the FA is willing to take a fine, but the feeling within the governing body is that the prospect of a booking and suspension has put players in an impossible position.

I think they should ask all the players to wear 2 armbands,

the Joe Lycett Vs. David Beckham story has got more traction than just a few amusing tweets from Lycett when he originally question Beckham's support.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63692988

Quote:
Comedian Joe Lycett has appeared to shred £10,000 of his own money in a protest against David Beckham's role as an ambassador for the Qatar World Cup.

Lycett livestreamed himself destroying the cash on Sunday after the footballer did not respond to his ultimatum to drop the job in support of LGBT people.

Zero chance of that, will be amazed if they get through the group.

Big shame that but I think they were left with little choice if there's a chance that players end up being booked/sent off because of it.

The statement from the Football Supporters' Association didn't hold back (rightly!):
"Today we feel contempt for an organisation that has shown its true values by giving the yellow card to players and the red card to tolerance," it added in a statement.

"Never again should a World Cup be handed out solely on the basis of money and infrastructure.

"No country which falls short on LGBT+ rights, women's rights, workers' rights, or any other universal human right, should be given the honour of hosting a World Cup."

Ste

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I feel sorry for players put in the awkward situation, especially if they're gay, get chosen to represent their country, then do they fulfill their lifelong dream, or take a stand? Damned if they do, damned if they don't :(
