Rooney: a fat scouse clown?

Doesn`t matter what your skills are; if you`re a prat and get sent off you`ve done your country no service at all: discuss.

The press are gonna tear him to shreds next week. I`m still not sure whether he should really have been sent off or not :/

Well, it looked like the ref sent him off for that little push after the incident - but I don`t think it deserved a red card. I mean, if he was going to send him off, do it for that stamp on the knackers... (ouch!) - I think that deserved it.

He`ll probably be public enemy number 1 for a while (like when Beckham was sent off in `98 ), but it`ll die down eventually.

I think in the long term the sending off will make him realise what a prat he has been and what it may have cost us (as this was reportedly the best England side for sometime).
He will learn from it and hopefully give Ronaldo a John Hartson special (a good training ground kick in the head).

what have you watched the replay.

he didn`t deliberately stamp,

his momentum and the way he was being wrestled to the ground ment that he had no way of putting his foot anywhere else. if you look his eyes are on the ball the whole time.

There is no way Rooney will be villified in the press. Absolutely no way.

His mitigation, the fact that Ronaldo is a C***, far outweighs his offence (in the eyes of the press at least).

I think they have learned from Beckham in that respect. They gave him a rough ride and he turned out to be their bread and butter, but very rarely co-operated with the press in any meaningful way.

Rooney is clearly their back page meal ticket for at least the next 10 years, so they will fall over themselves to make excuses for him. He will get a `Silly Rooney`, but I dont think they will be burning effigees of him at upton park this season.

Additionally, Beckhams lash out was incredibly girly and pointless. Rooney had played his heart out in a crap, frustrating formation, getting niggled at because the portugeuse knew they could get him sent off. Plus his own team mate nutted him before the game.

To be honest, I wanted to kick my mate in the nuts just watching it.

I`ve never liked Ronaldo so am unable to pass an impartial remark about his behaviour - I`m sure he`ll cry like a baby though when Rooney lamps him. It didn`t seem to me that Rooney deliberately stamped but at the end of the day the ref makes the decision that he thinks is the correct one - it`s not the first time that a ref has got it wrong.

What I find interesting is that Rooney was the English saviour able to win the world cup on his own, and now he`ll be villified because he didn`t achieve it.

I`m too old for this sh*t!

He wont get butchered by the press because Ronaldo will be made into the bad guy (not that I am saying he shouldnt be) and hence Rooney will escape the same sort of stick that Beckham got after 1998
From what I saw on the tele it looked obvious that from the start of the game Ronaldo was trying to wind rooney up. It would appear that he managed to do so and Wayne maybe needs to look at this and learn from it, every team under the sun will now be charging someone with the task of having a word in the lads ear and winding him up now because he`s shown he;`ll react, so unless he can rectify his response to these tactics he`s gonna be seeing the red card a lot more in the future

I dont personally think that Rooney can have any complaints though. Assuming he was sent off for the push on C.R. well he`s raised his arms to another player - I believe thats a red card offence under todays laws. (bit like Reina on Robben, yes the cheating little dutchman dived and rolled around like a baby unnecessarily but Reina raised his hand and ran the risk of getting the card he got)

The "stamp" was IMO accidental and caused due to the natural momentum and direction of the players.

I agree about the stamp, what i meant was his lack of self control mouthing off and the massive shove ;)
