sorry you missed my point, that the normal play off football which involves the other set pieces is more in the essence of the game than penalties.
i think that if the teams are forced to play on it will get more attacking as neither team will want to play on for too long as they will have their next game in mind. Plus there would be no advantage in completely defending.
with the threat of having to continue after extra time i think more games will be settled in extra time.
why was golden goal scrapped by the way, it worked quite well i think.
did some off the big teams complain after being knocked out after a golden goal.
the problem i have with penalties to decide a winner, is that football is a team game.
penalties turn it into a one on one competition.

but unlike football in golf and snooker you have not been running around for 120mins have you. and they very rarely come down to play off`s at the end.
penalties (or similar) as finishing a competition is very rare in other sports.
even in tennis, a match can`t be won on a tie break the player has to win outright. (which works very well)

the same can be said about penalties, i.e letting it stand when the goalkeeper was about 5 yards of his line, the goalkeeper time wasting to put off the other player, the kicker checking their run.
corner kicks, throw ins, free kicks are more part of the game than penalties (in sense of the amount of time taken up with these events in a game).
shouldn`t the game be decided on what is the essence of the game.

the champions league final that was at old trafford about 3-4 years ago.
Penalties just comes down to who has the most bottle, Stress can make even the greatest player miss.
It`s just a shame its all we have at the moment!

oh i agree they are stupid ideas i was just saying that scoring first made more sense than scoring last.
i can`t stand penalties as the team that deserves to win more often than not doesn`t win.
you`re starting to get teams deliberately playing defensive to go to penalties, and it will only get worse. making big games more and more boring.
whats wrong with after the 120min play until someone scores. At least then it will be a bit of skill or defensive mistake which decides the game (just as it normally does in normal time)

won`t it make games more attacking as you`ll want to be the team that scores first.
and won`t most ideas be stumped when it`s 0-0.
kick both teams out if it`s 0-0 after 120mins. neither switzerland or ukraine deserved to go through after their tie in the world cup.

the whole rolling around thing is the most obvious im not injured part of it.
think about it if you have just seriously injured your leg will you roll over on it again and again. i don`t think so.
i reckon they should bring the stretcher on strap the so called injured leg up (For Health & Safety Reasons of course ;) ) then march the player straight to the infirmary. If the player refuses then they where play acting and should be sent off.
first couple of games might be ridiculous but it`ll soon sort this mess out.
