Can I take this back to game.

I bought 3 pc games in a `buy 3 for £10` deal at the game retail store, one of them was `Discworld noir - Terry Pratchectts latest adventure` I put it on today and played it for about two hours, before that I had trouble putting a shortcut on my desktop and it didnt appear in my program file, Iplayed the game and thought id save it as id got frustratingly stuck but lo and behold I put the game on and it wouldnt load my saved game, I check on the back of the box and for system requirements it states - Windows 95/ 98 / ME (Not compatible with Windows 2000 or XP) . I suppose its my own fault as I shouldve checked the back of the box before buying, although I thought with XP being the latest Windows it would be no problem for games. I dont want a refund just to exchange it for another game.

Official stance is there is no onus on the Retailer to accept it back, and in Currys we would say no (can`t resell it new as it`s used, can`t return it as it aint faulty).

Game, however, have a pre owned section, so you might be ok with them, especially as you want to exchange it and not refund it.
(most of the time a title is returned it`s because it`s been taken home, copied in a CDRW, then brought back with some crap excuse about not playing.)

GL with it anyways :)

Have you tried running it in `compatibility mode`?
Right-click the icon and select properties then comapatibilty. Tick the `Run in....` box and select an OS. Ya never know..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Game have / used to have a 10 or 12 day returns policy, where you could return it for whatever reason for a full refund. It is a really good policy for honest people, but is also a double edged sword, which can be abused by those not so honest. I can see the dark side which I do find annoying:

1. It`s ok having a returns policy, but what happens when someone returns it, put back into stock no doubt for some poor person to buy again as if new (I hate the way discs are kept behind the counter opened, and not in a shrink wrap as supplied).

2. People can copy them and cause havoc for online gamers. Ok, it`s bad enough if they copy any game and return them, but if they copy an online game it`s even worse, as often they have a CD keycode on a sticker in the box that you use to register online to play the game to prove you have a legit copy. Now suppose Joe Bloggs copies the game, notes down the CD key from the sticker in the box (which Game leave for anyone to view on the shelf now the empty boxes are open). Joe goes online, registers his game with the CD key he wrote down and is playing away. Poor punter goes in and buys the legit copy Joe returned, goes online and finds he can`t register his game (because Joe has already used the CD key with his copy version).
This leaves you with an unusable game (at least for online play which is probably why you bought it), and the headache of trying to get it all sorted out as to why you can`t get online. Hard to prove the game is faulty when it`s not the game, but the CD key no longer any good.

You`d think Game would be more secure with their stock, just have one empty case on display for customers to view, and the rest still in their shrink wrap behind the counter / out the back. When I`ve ordered games from Amazon they`ve always been shrink wrapped.

Mark. :)

Firstly: Many games have the CD-Keys printed on the manual which is kept behind the counter with the game itself. Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth, Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour, Half-Life Generations, Empire Earth and the Art of Conquest Expansion are just a few of which I have recently purchased where this is the case.
Seondly: The disks are kept behind the counter so people can`t slip them out of the cases...
Thirdly: Just because it comes in cellophane wrapping does not mean it is new many places have their own device for doing this. And even so I somewhat doubt that used goods go back onto the shelf as un-used. Can you imagine the number of people who would be complaining if the item they just bought had been `Joe Bloggsed`? It would be more trouble for the retailer than it would be worth.

I work for game. The returns policy doesn`t incude PC games or DVD`s as they can easily be copied. However the manager will at his discretion accept a return on a PC game or DVD so your best bet is to go in and have a word, if you`re resonable he should be to.

As for the idea of only having one case on display all I can say is you`ve never been in Game at Christmas as the idea is totally impractical.
