Where did I say you weren`t entitled to your own opinion? Of course you are, no matter how outdated and clichéd (or in the case of Mr Abrams enjoying brutalising women just plain wrong) it may be.

Answer is - He doesn't. Alias puts a female protagonist in a role normally associated with a male and doesn't change the rules to fit the gender. How many Mel Gibson films have we seen the hero tortured before escaping and then getting the upper hand? Does Richard Donner get accused of getting off brutalising men?

Mark, your comment is far more degrading to women than anything Mr Abrams has done.

Guess it depends on the company supplying the discs. I`ve been reviewing for blogcritics.org for the last few months and have received several DVD`s and CD`s and haven`t had to return any. Warner`s are funny about sending anything pre-release though. I`ve had The Complete Exorcist set, Forbidden Planet and the recent Brando box set but all after they`ve hit the shelves.

You can`t really compare the mono tracks on the Region 3 to the missing original audio as it wasn`t mono. Superman 70mm prints had 70 mm 6-Track (6 channel surround) and 35mm prints had Dolby Stereo (sort of Cinema Pro-Logic). If it had been mono originaly I`d have been unhappy at the absence of the original audio as there have been some terrible remixes of mono soundtracks (Crazies, The Osterman Weekend and Jaws are a few that spring to mind).

And yes the producer is unhappy with the new mix but then this is the same guy who replaced Richard Donner with Richard Lester so his judgement is pretty suspect. ;)

Picked mine up after work yesterday and finally got to have a look at it tonight. There is indeed no original audio on the first disc but I doubt it`s not there because of other languages. The disc only contains Portuguese and Spanish mono sound (for some reason the Spanish track has someone reading the cast names during the credits) on top of the English so that`s only one more than the US release (that has French).

What is interesting is that it wasn`t mentioned in the specs for either the Region 1 or 2 sets posted on DVD Times way back on 20th September. Personally, I`m not that bothered as it`s a decent remix from an original surround soundtrack. Not like Jaws which was mono, now that one I`ll moan about... >:(

Glad to say that mine arrived in pristine condition, not a dent in sight. :D

I get "no authorised orders can be found" if I try and search by order number rather than account, I even get it on the Six Million Dollar Man order that was showing as shipped yesterday.

It may well have something to do with the £5 vouchers but if you`re feeling dirty at least you`ve saved £5 that you can spend on some soap ;)

Well yesterday`s parcel wasn`t Superman but the postie did bring it today. Unfortunately he came at some ungodly hour of the morning while I was still in bed asleep and the card he put through the door says to wait 48 hours before coming to collect it so I`m not going to have it in my sweaty hands till Monday. >:(

Did get some other stuff I ordered from CD WOW though as they fit through the letterbox. :)

From what I`ve heard there is a 2.0 soundtrack on there but it`s a downmix of the 5.1 track not the original audio and most people probably can`t tell the difference between the two. I`m off to pick up a parcel from the Royal Mail that I hope is Superman, if it is I`ll let you know later what audio is on there.

The UK set has the single disc editions while the German one contains the 2 disc Special Editions.

Like Ascomdog I`ve never had any problems with them. I remeber one Christmas I bought my brother a Hammer box set from them. Come Christmas morning he opened it to find no discs inside. Contacted dvd.co.uk and they more than happy to swap it over.

Invasion, Surface and Threhold arn`t worth bothering with. Not because they weren`t good (Invasion and Surface anyway) but because they were planned as multi-season stories (like Lost) and therefore don`t have a proper conclusion.

Of the others I`ve only seen Silent Hill and V for Vendetta and both are worth getting. However I wouldn`t buy anything on day of release anymore as within a month or two they`ll be part of a 3 for £20 (or even 3 for £15) deal
