Printer question

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 10th January 2018, 03:00

Just bought myself a new printer, Epson XP-245.
Completed installation. Test page prints fine but printing out a bank statement (bloody accounts) although the text on screen is black it prints light blue/cyan.
Prints perfectly normally ie: black  if I use t'other half's work printer on wi fi.
Not entirely sure where to start looking for the cause of the problem.

Edit: I should add that the header and footer on the page print in black

Have you tried some other picture to check if it is printing out black in that, just in case the bank statement has an off black colour in its writing that the printer is seeing as cyan.

Even if it is off black, it should print out the same colour from screen to print, so either something wrong with the ink, or the printer itself.

Worth doing a nozzle check in case they are blocked. This should be easily found in settings if you haven't done it before.

Am I wrong to expect a new printer to print out of the box?
I didn't expect nozzles to be blocked on a brand new printer and new set of cartridges.

Fifth cleaning cycle now and still not printing clearly.

I'm going to be through a full set of cartridges at this rate before I get it working.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were dodgy cartridges.

Five cleaning cycles from new isn't right.  Is each cycle making a difference?
I'd either return it or ask for some replacement cartridges.

Definitely not right and worth complaining about!

If cartridges were pre-installed when you bought it they may may have dried out around the printing heads. Could have been knocking around a warehouse for a while.

The old adage 'Buy cheap buy twice' was never more true.

Didn't just add the cartridges to the Amazon printer purchase because they were cheap but they actually had fairly good reviews. They're going back for a refund and the new ones from my local ink shop, although twice the price,  are working fine.
